All eyes are on Gibraltar, because of its vaccination campaign and its relaxing restrictions, but there is a largely unaddressed tragedy lying behind the apparent triumph - article by Neville Hodgkinson.

The world overlooked a tragedy – Hodgkinson wrote:

There is, however, a largely unaddressed tragedy lying behind the apparent triumph. Gibraltar has lost 94 lives to Covid-19 – the highest Covid mortality rate, proportional to its population, in the world.

"A more sinister possibility is that that the Rock could be the ‘canary in the mine’ signalling a potentially lethal vaccine hazard in susceptible people, perhaps made worse by concurrent or immediate past Covid-19 infection."

"The vulnerability may also have been increased by a flu vaccination campaign this winter, the most intense in Gibraltar’s history."

"In February, when I first learned of it, I wrote to the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to ask if they were investigating the situation in Gibraltar, and if so how."

"The agency replied that due to different legal arrangements for medicines, they do not routinely collect Yellow Card (adverse reaction) reports from Gibraltar, but would accept any such reports submitted and collaborate with counterparts in Gibraltar on a case-by-case basis."

"On March 6 I wrote to Dr Krishna Rawal, Gibraltar’s medical director, to ask if in view of the territory’s unique experience."

"I have not received a reply."

Seems a bit coordinated - mass vaccinations and news of "freedom". Could THEY be using Gibraltar to lure everyone into thinking mass-vaccinations are the way to freedom?

Dr Sohail Bhatti says that there are still groups from all age bands that haven't had the vaccine, estimating this ratio.

Tonight, Gibraltar welcomes football fans back to the Victoria Stadium, for an international match with a largely vaccinated crowd.

Speaking to us ahead of the game, Dr Bhatti described the Rock's recent sporting events as experiments, following the vaccination rollout.

He said that as part of this, all spectators from Saturday's boxing event and tonight's football match would be asked to do a swab in ten days' time.

The Director of Public Health also said that the decision to make tonight's match an adults-only event was a decision taken by the GFA and not advice issued by Public Health Gibraltar.

It's simple arithmetic. Surely, Dr Sohail Bhatti ought to be able to give the precise statistics to justify his claim that about 90 per cent of Gibraltarians have already taken the jab, or 10 per cent remain unjabbed. He comes across as evasive, and the GBC yet again, give him such an easy ride. It might be interesting to conduct a sample poll in Main Street on a busy week-day, to ascertain if this statistic is broadly accurate. As far as I know, Government legislation has not yet been introduced to forbid one member of the public from asking another member of the public, if they've been jabbed, or not.

How many members of the police here, have already taken the jab and second jab, the wandering blue wonders?

"Gibraltar has recorded two weeks with no hospitalised cases of Covid-19.

The news comes against the backdrop of a major vaccine rollout programme that has so far seen 60,907 jabs of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine administered.

A total of 32,293 people have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 28,614 of those have had both their jabs.

The last Covid-19 cases in St Bernard’s Hospital or the Elderly Residential Services were recorded on March 21 and March 2 respectively.

The Minister for Health, Samantha Sacramento, said: “It is a great relief to be able to announce this news.”

“The measures and precautions we have implemented are working, and we must remember the dedication of our GHA staff to achieve this.”

Chief Minister Fabian Picardo added: “I am very pleased to say we are now at the two week point with no cases in ERS and St Bernard’s Hospital.”

“Our successful vaccine programme is allowing us to resume a more normal way of life which we should be thankful for, especially during this time of Easter, as families begin to reunite after a very difficult year.”

On Sunday, there were no new active cases recorded.

There were seven active cases on the Rock, one of which was a visitor, and a further 42 people were in self isolation.

To date since the start of the pandemic, Gibraltar has registered 4,275 cases of Covid-19 and 94 deaths."

Every reason to doubt the vaccine makers’ reassurances

Hodgkinson: I have reported previously on an astonishing spike in deaths that occurred alongside an intensive vaccination campaign in Gibraltar, where the small community consequently developed the highest Covid death rate in the world. We also know that thousands of deaths have been seen in the US, EU and UK in the wake of Covid vaccinations, often immediately after the jab has been administered.

The manufacturers, leading medical journals and most governments insist these deaths are unrelated to the vaccine. In many instances, the deaths and serious illness have been attributed to coincidental infection with the virus.

But evidence is mounting that for some, especially the weak and elderly, the vaccine itself is creating or worsening the very illness against which it is supposed to be protective.
