Ireland: Government Plans to Imprison People Just for Possession of “Hate Speech”

Somehow, despite the fact that there are not really any Jews in Ireland, the country has moved to the forefront of pushing the global Jewish agenda.

Ireland was for a long time the most conservative country in Western Europe – as well as the poorest – by a lot. They appear to have some need to show themselves as very much “progressive” and “down with” the globalist Jew agenda.

Breitbart:

Government ministers have been accused of pushing “thought policing” hate speech laws that could see people jailed for so much as possessing material that is deemed to be hateful.

Members of Ireland’s parliament have slammed the country’s government as wanting to implement a regime of “thought policing” in the European Union member-state.

Under the proposed Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill 2022, which is aimed at implementing “hate speech” laws in Ireland, people found to be in possession of material deemed to be able to provoke hatred against protected individuals could face up to two years in jail.

To make matters worse, while those found with illegal material may be able to claim that they had no intention of actually distributing the offending material as a defence, such an excuse would require them to prove to a court that they had no intention of distributing the problematic content.

Speaking in the country’s parliament on Thursday, the leader of the opposition party Aontú, Peadar Tóibín TD, described the proposal as an attempt by the government to impose “thought policing” on Ireland,

In particular, the party leader heavily criticised the country’s Justice Minister, Helen McEntee, as wanting to censor people she disagrees with.

“For pluralism it must be possible for mutually opposing ideologies to coexist simultaneously,” he said.

“The quote attributed to Voltaire ‘I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it,’ is a foundation stone of tolerance and pluralism and therefore cohesion within a liberal democracy.”

“Helen McEntee’s version of that quote is ‘I may not agree with what you have to say and I will put you in jail for saying it,’” he observed.

He also criticised the ease with which a judge could issue a search warrant against the property of an individual so much as suspected to be in possession of “hateful” material.

Under the bill as proposed, a judge at the district court level will be able to issue a search warrant against a person’s home should a member of the country’s police service claim under oath that there is “reasonable” grounds to believe illegal material may be present in a person’s home.

“It is incredible that Gardaí would have a right to search your homes on this basis,” he remarked.

While a minority of TDs expressed similar concerns to the ones held by Tóibín, the vast majority within the Irish parliament voiced support for the implementation of hate speech rules, with some members of government parties, in particular, appearing to be in favour of the rules that could see people jailed for possessing material deemed hateful.

This sort of extremist anti-extremism is coming to the rest of the world soon. There is one agenda for the whole world, and that agenda does not involve you being allowed to criticize that agenda.

“Hate speech” is only the beginning. They are going to outlaw criticism of global warming soon enough – just as some countries have already outlawed disagreeing about the coronavirus or the war against Russia.

The very core of the agenda is that you’re not allowed to disagree with the agenda. That is globalism. It can only work if people are forced into it, otherwise people all over the world could not possibly agree on a single global agenda.

There are a lot of Jews in Ireland and because the Irish have been fighting them, Ireland has been moved to the “forefront” as you say

“Ireland Is Full!”… and Interesting

See, earlier (2016) Brave New Ireland—How the Island of Saints and Scholars Became a Multicultural Dystopia and (2006) Ireland: Though All The World (Specifically, The Irish PM) Betray Thee.

[ Adapted from the latest Radio Derb, now available exclusively on VDARE.com ]

The Cultural Revolution rolls on, crushing all before it under its mighty wheels: nationhood, meritocracy, Christianity, freedom of speech and association, equal justice under the law, … all the props of Western Civilization. We normies watch the juggernaut roll, hoping and praying for some sign of counterrevolution, for evidence that ordinary, not-very-political citizens will not go gentle into the good night of high-tech Anti-White authoritarianism.

And we have been getting some encouraging signs recently from Ireland.

The Cultural Revolution has been proceeding much faster and more ruthlessly in that country than elsewhere. In part that’s because Ireland had further to go. I myself have been writing for years about how the Ireland of fifty years ago, then perhaps the most culturally conservative white nation, transformed itself into the Heart of Wokeness after joining the EU in 1973.

It’s not very surprising under the circumstances that Ireland has bought into the Open-Borders aspect of globalism.

It’s even less surprising when you recall that for three hundred years there Ireland, with its poverty and high fertility, was a poster child for e-migration to Britain, the U.S.A., Australia, and New Zealand.

Well, things may be changing. The last few days have seen major demonstrations against Ireland’s Open Borders. Wednesday this week VDARE’s own correspondent Pádraic O’Bannon gave us a great montage of Twitter clips showing ordinary Irish people fighting back against their demographic replacement.

For a deeper dive into the politics of the situation—and I speak here as one who has been doing political commentary about Ireland for more than twenty years—I recommend Peter Ryan’s recent column over at Unherd.com:

…[G]rassroots anti-migrant protests are sweeping across the country, rallying around the slogan “Ireland is Full.” There were 307 anti-migrant protests in 2022, while 2023 has already seen 64. At the latest demonstration in Dublin, on Tuesday [February 6], more than 2,000 protestors took to the streets.

[The rise of Ireland’s anti-migrant protests, February 9, 2023]

As here and in Britain, the Irish Establishment is determined to do nothing at all about the inflow, and to slander, harass, and when necessary arrest those who demonstrate against it.

This has been easy for them as Ireland has been under Uniparty rule for a hundred years.

Two big political parties have held power across that long span. Fianna Fáil is very approximately the U.S. Democratic Party, with more working-class support; Fine Gael is more business-friendly, like our GOP.

That’s highly theoretical, though. In practice there’s been no daylight between the two parties for decades. They are now united in globalism, determined to keep the borders open, and full of angry denunciations of the “Far Right.”

Sound familiar?

A great curiosity in this situation: the minority party, Sinn Féin. Twenty-three years ago I was describing Sinn Féin—correctly, of course—”the only plausible nationalist-patriotic party in Ireland.”

Sinn Féin was so nationalist-patriotic that they were at one point arguing for Ireland to leave the European Union. They were so nationalist-patriotic they served as the political front for the terrorists carrying out bombings and assassinations in British-ruled Northern Ireland.

Nationalist-patriotic? Oh yeah.

So Sinn Féin is leading the counter-revolution against Open Borders and the destruction of Irish nationhood, right?

Er, no.

Sinn Féin’s current leadership is totally at one with the Uniparty, supporting Open-Borders globalism. The current president of Sinn Féin, Mary Lou McDonald, is a middle-class female Social Justice Warrior.

She represents a working-class constituency in Dublin, Ireland’s capital. None of the news stories and commentaries on this week’s demonstrations failed to notice that—

[Sinn Féin’s] failure to provide a nationalist stance on these issues means they are often the most hated by protestors; a placard picture of Mary Lou MacDonald bearing the word “traitor” was lustily booed at the original East Wall protest.

[A Total Loss of Narrative Control, by Conor Fitzgerald; Substack, February 8, 2023]

Could a genuinely nationalist party come up in Ireland, a nation that was once ardent in protection and preservation of its national identity? Well, one already has: the five-year-old Irish Freedom Party.

The IFP hasn’t made much of a mark yet and has suffered from all the weaknesses and personality issues that always afflict small new parties; and of course Ireland’s ruling class will do all it can to crush them.

They’re out there, though, and not throwing bombs or shooting cops Sinn Féin-style. Let’s see what develops.

Ireland, as I wrote all those years ago, is interesting, a place worth watching.

Lawmakers in Ireland have passed a new law that will make it illegal for citizens to view or share any non-mainstream media content on their phones and computer devices.

Yes, really.

The new legislation means that anything viewed online that has been deemed “hateful” by fact-checkers will result in prison time for those who have viewed or shared it.

Ireland moves to slaughter 200,000 cows over climate concerns

According to the Irish Mirror, the reduction would cost taxpayers €600,000 over three years to pay for. The Department of Agriculture responded to the reports stating that the plan is not yet final policy, but a "modeling document" and various options are being considered.
"The Paper referred to was part of a deliberative process – it is one of a number of modeling documents considered by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and is not a final policy decision," a spokesperson said. "As part of the normal work of Government Departments, various options for policy implementation are regularly considered.”

Last year, Ireland Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue introduced a proposal to begin a voluntary dairy reduction scheme next year as the country tries to reduce its emissions by 25% before 2030.

According to reports from the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, Ireland has around 2.5 million beef and dairy cows, which account for two-thirds of the agricultural products.

An Environmental Protection Agency report from 2021 found that the entire agriculture sector accounts for 38% of the country's Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) emissions.

A report by The Telegraph, notes that these revelations in Ireland come just after Dutch farmers were threatened with compulsory purchase for the same reason. The government would offer a financial incentive for the farmers to give up their cows.

The EU has set a target to become the first continent to achieve net-zero greenhouse gases with 2050 as the legally binding target date, according to Eco-Logic. It has set a target of a 55% emissions reduction by 2030, as compared to levels seen in 1990.

Ireland’s “Hate Speech Bill” is a grotesque abuse of State power that will affect freedom of speech worldwide

By Rhoda Wilson on December 7, 2023

Ireland’s “Hate Speech Bill” or The Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill 2022 is a radical update to Irish hate crime law. It is a blueprint for authoritarianism, threatening jail time for the possession of memes and even reversing Ireland’s constitutionally guaranteed presumption of innocence – you are presumed guilty until you can prove yourself innocent.

Interest in the revised hate speech laws has been spurred by recent rioting in Dublin following the stabbing of three children and an early childhood worker outside of a school last month.

Australian media outlet Defence Connect reported that the riots prompted Irish Prime Minister (Taoiseach) Leo Varadkar to encourage a review of Ireland’s hate speech legislation. “I think it’s now very obvious to anyone who might have doubted us, that our incitement hatred legislation is just not up to date,” Varadkar said.

“It’s not up to date for the social media age, and we need that legislation through. And we need it through in a matter of weeks because it’s not just the platforms that have a responsibility here, and they do, it’s also the individuals who post messages and images online that stir up hatred and violence. We need to be able to use laws to go after them individually.”

Irish law firm Matheson wrote that the Bill will expand the regulation of hate crimes in Ireland considerably and introduce the following new offences:

  • incitement to violence or hatred on account of certain defined protected characteristics;
  • condonation, denial or gross trivialisation of genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes against peace; and
  • preparing or possessing material likely to incite violence or hatred on account of protected characteristics.

How does the Bill define hatred? It defines “hatred” as “hatred” and doesn’t bother to alleviate concerns regarding the subjectivity and perception of emotion.

The Attorney General advised that “for the purpose of this legislation, ‘hatred’ takes on its ordinary meaning as opposed to being set out as a definition, as it is a concept that is universally understood.”

And now Canada...

# Orwellian Canada wants to put you in prison BEFORE you commit a thoughtcrime

No, Canada!

The country that brought you debanking protesters and government-assisted suicide for the poor now wants to criminalize speech to lock up people for life and to put wrongthinkers under house arrest if the state sees a chance they will commit a crime.

Doesn’t get more Orwellian than that

The chillingly titled Online Harms Act was introduced in February by Justice Minister Arif Virani.

Virani (like most of the modern left) couched his effort to strip citizens of their freedom in the language of safety, comparing it to a product regulation for toys.

Utter dishonesty: If passed, the law will endow Ottawa with powers that would make Big Brother jealous.

Pissed at your girlfriend? Tell the government she’s likely to commit a hate crime and have her house-arrested.

Worse, one provision in the bill would “increase the maximum penalty specifically for advocating genocide from 5 years to life imprisonment.”

We’re sure a law that criminalizes “advocating for genocide” could never be twisted to criminalize support for Israel.

The pro-Hamas left will have a field day.

The law would saddle social media companies that refuse to bend the knee with insane fines reaching up to 6% of global revenue.

In short, it would be the end of free expression in Canada.

Things have not gotten that bad in America … yet.

But as we saw during the pandemic, when the modern left (and sometimes now the right, sadly) holds political power, it does everything it can to suppress speech it dislikes.

Though only the left enjoys full cooperation from a lickspittle media while doing so.

And it wasn’t until pro-terror staff and professors at elite US colleges got in hot water for backing Hamas after Oct. 7 that left-dominated colleges suddenly remembered they liked free speech (sometimes).

And this comes from the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whose party secured less than a third of the popular vote in the last national election and indeed has been governing as a minority since 2019: Maybe not a mandate for thought control?

The Online Harms Act should serve as a reminder that as ugly as the anti-speech movement is in America, it could be vastly worse — and that we all need to fight for our rights without pause.
