Over 150 people arrested at massive pro-Palestine rallies across Tri-State

BAY RIDGE, Brooklyn (WABC) -- The Tri-State had a weekend filled with both pro-Palestine and pro-Israel rallies, that ended with 161 people arrested.

On Friday, nearly 140 people were charged with disorderly conduct for blocking traffic during a demonstration. They were summonsed and later released, authorities said.

Then in Brooklyn on Saturday, 19 adults and multiple juveniles were charged for things like disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

NYPD officers pushed back at the pro-Palestine protesters and ordered them out of the roadway. The rally continued into the night with tensions eventually flaring between officers and demonstrators.

The protest started hours earlier on Saturday - and was much more peaceful with thousands taking to 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge. Many marched for a ceasefire in the Middle East.

At Saturday's protest, it was not just the Palestinian community, it was also different members of other communities to voice the same message to free Palestine.

"Just treat the Palestinians as humans. They deserve every human right as any other civilians. Just treat a human as a human. That's all we're asking for," added Saba Tahir.

Protesters in Bay Ridge said they will continue to voice their opinions in order to bring harmony and to make sure no innocent people are killed.

In a part of Paterson known as "Little Palestine," a peaceful demonstration brought people of all different faiths together in solidarity with the civilians in Gaza on Sunday.

The diverse crowd denounced and protested Israel's military response to the attacks on October 7. They also called on members of Congress to consider that it is not just Israelis who are suffering and asked them to support a cease-fire and humanitarian aid to Gaza.

"It's more about standing up for humanity. We're tired of protesting, we're tired of posting stuff, we're tired of doing what we're doing, but they're also tired of dying," said Dalia Ahmed, one of the demonstrators in Paterson.

The demonstrators in Paterson Sunday emphasized that none of this is about religion and that Jewish protestors were in attendance as well saying war is not the answer. The community of "Little Palestine" and others are gearing up for a rally in Washington next month.

At 11 a.m., a pro-Israel rally kicked off in Brooklyn. There were musical performances and guest speakers, including Mayor Eric Adams, at the event in Manhattan Beach.

On Long Island, the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County hosted a candlelight vigil for Israel at 4 p.m.

Active duty airman set himself on fire in front of the Israeli Embassy

In protest of Israeli war on Gaza

Washington, D.C. emergency services took the man to a hospital with "critical life threatening injuries."

The District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department confirmed to Task & Purpose that they received a report about a man on fire outside the embassy just before 1 p.m. Eastern Time and dispatched emergency services. The fire had been extinguished by uniformed members of the Secret Service. EMS took the man to an area hospital, saying he was suffering from “critical life threatening injuries.”

Independent journalist Talia Jane obtained video of the self-immolation, although it has not been posted online. On X, former known as Twitter, Jane reports that the man in Air Force uniform said he was “an active duty member of the U.S. Air Force and I will no longer be complicit in genocide.” He then set himself on fire and repeatedly shouted “Free Palestine.”

A spokesperson for the U.S. Air Force confirmed to Task & Purpose that the man in uniform is an active-duty airman. The airman’s identity has not been confirmed.

MIND CONTROLLED "MILITARY OPERATIVE" SETS HIMSELF ON FIRE! THE MANCHURIAN ACTIVIST!

Yes thank you
Don't know how real the whole thing is

Saw the video of the livestream. Who knows, but, based on what he said beforehand, it seemed real enough.

In his final acts, Bushnell, donning his army fatigues, recorded and live streamed his protest. In footage of his self-immolation posted by reporter Talia Jane on social media, he explains that he “will no longer be complicit in genocide.”

“I am an active duty member of the United States Airforce, and I will no longer be complicit in genocide,” says Bushnell, who sent news outlets a link to his livestream prior to his self-immolation.

“I am about to engage in an extreme act of protest, but compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers, it’s not extreme at all. This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal,” he continues in the video.

Standing in front of the embassy, Bushnell then douses himself in liquid and sets himself on fire. He repeatedly yells “free Palestine,” even as he screams in pain, and eventually falls silent. Those appear to be his last words.

As he fell over, a cop/security officer came up and pointed a gun at his burning body (...to protect the Israeli Embassy from the man?)

As Bushnell committed his final act of protest, the official death toll from Israel’s genocide of Gaza was surpassing 30,000 Palestinians, with thousands more missing under the rubble, many presumed dead. The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has reported that Israel has blocked food from entering the northern part of Gaza since January 23, and officials have warned that over 700,000 Palestinians in Gaza are on the verge of starving to death due to Israel’s starvation campaign. Horrors that would otherwise be unimaginable — like newborn babies dying from starvation, air strikes or the systematic destruction of an entire region’s medical system — are becoming commonplace for Palestinians amid Israel’s horrific assault.

As Bushnell falls over, a police or security officer is seen on video pointing a gun at his burning body. Another officer responding to the incident can be heard yelling, “I don’t need guns, I need fire extinguishers.”

Those who knew Bushnell described him as a principled and warm-hearted man who dedicated his time to mutual aid efforts.

“Aaron is the kindest, gentlest, silliest little kid in the Air Force,” someone identified only as Errico told Jane. “He’s always trying to think about how we can actually achieve liberation for all with a smile on his face.”

For a person who knows that they are about to die, there would not be any reason to lie.

Pentagon Reacts To Aaron Bushnell's Self-Immolation At Israel Embassy

The Pentagon said U.S. Navy Airman Aaron Bushnell's self-immolation outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C. was "tragic." Bushnell died from his injuries after setting himself on fire Sunday in protest of Israel's operation in Gaza.

"While our support for Israel's inherent right to defend itself is ironclad.."
