British nuclear submarine visits Gibraltar

Royal Navy flagship teams up with French carrier for ‘cat and mouse’ war games

The submarine appeared to be having some level of equipment fitting done.

The aircraft carrier met up with the FS Charles de Gaulle in the western Mediterranean as it continues its first operational deployment with the Carrier Strike Group (CSG) heading to the Indo-Pacific region.

The UK and US F35B Lightning stealth jets embarked aboard the Queen Elizabeth have been taking part in exercises with the French carrier and its Rafale aircraft.

A Royal Navy spokesman said: “The first phase of Exercise Gallic Strike saw Queen Elizabeth and Charles de Gaulle take part in a cat-and-mouse style war game, with both task groups testing the others’ abilities to protect and defend against threats.

Preparation in May – Massive British, NATO war games prepare Queen Elizabeth carrier strike group to confront Russia and China

This year’s iteration of Britain’s biannual Joint Warrior exercise in the Irish Sea is subsumed under another exercise, Strike Warrior 21, being used to prepare the HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier, the flagship of the Royal Navy, and its carrier strike group for deployment to the Mediterranean Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Asia-Pacific region.

NATO begins massive Defender 2021 military exercises aimed at Russia

The United States, at the head of the NATO military alliance, is continuing its military and diplomatic drive to encircle and subjugate Russia.

Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact in 1991, NATO has absorbed much of Eastern Europe and, with the Euromaidan coup of 2014 in Ukraine, expanded its sphere of influence up to Russia’s border. This is the context in which the huge NATO military exercise beginning this week, Defender 2021 Europe, unfolds.

Since March, NATO has amassed over 28,000 soldiers from 26 allied nations to practice for war.

According to a US military fact-sheet on Defender-Europe 2021, the exercise “demonstrates our ability to serve as a strategic security partner in the western Balkans and Black Sea regions while sustaining our abilities in northern Europe, the Caucasus, Ukraine and Africa.” Listed among the “countries participating in exercise activities” are non-NATO member states Ukraine and Georgia.

These drills will continue into June.

Classified War Games to Simulate Global Conflict With China and Russia

From March – The scenarios (of the 2021 War Games) that could be simulated in the war games include major cyberattacks, a Russian advance in the Baltics, confrontation in the Arctic with Russia, incidents with China in the South China Sea, and a Chinese invasion of Taiwan.

The results of the war games could have an impact on troop numbers around the world and could be a factor in making decisions on military budgets.

Anonymous officials speaking to CNN hinted that the results of this summer’s war games will not look good for the US, which means they will be used to justify more military spending.

US ‘Gets Its Ass Handed to It’ in Wargames: Here’s a $24B Fix

In June – WASHINGTON: The US keeps losing, hard, in simulated wars with Russia and China. Bases burn. Warships sink. But we could fix the problem for about $24 billion a year, one well-connected expert said, less than four percent of the Pentagon budget.

Russia is back in the Mediterranean and it is there to stay

2 June 2021 – In 2021 Putin sacrificed the prosperity of the noughties to spend every spare kopek on re-equipping the military, a campaign that more or less finished in 2018.

“Russia’s strategy in the Mediterranean is an integral part of its strategy for the wider European theatre, which has long been the principal arena of its foreign policy triumphs and setbacks,” Eugene Rumer and Richard Sokolsky of Russia Strategic Initiative (RSI), a US Department of Defence organisation, said in a paper published by the Carnegie Centre Moscow.

Western NATO allies have looked on with some alarm at Russia’s expansion in the Mediterranean.

“The principal rationale for Russia’s return to the region has been the prospect of a military confrontation in the European theatre and concerns about the vulnerability of its southern flank in a conflict with NATO...“The Kremlin may aspire to dominate the Mediterranean one day, but for now its aim is to deny this option to NATO (paper).”
