'Red Alert': China posts bizarre video of marching female Chinese soldiers to sounds of classic video game

The music, peppered by the sound of boots and militaristic commands, is from the opening to the 1996 title "Command & Conquer: Red Alert." That game, which is widely regarded as one of the best titles in its genre, is premised in an alternate timeline where Albert Einstein discovers time travel in a lab in New Mexico. As a result, in 1946 he transports back to pre-war Germany and removes future dictator Adolf Hitler from history altogether.

China posts bizarre video of marching female Chinese soldiers to sounds of.

The Chinese government has posted a bizarre video of female Chinese soldiers marching in various settings to its official account for its embassy in France — and featuring music that was made for a famous 1996 military strategy video game.

The video, captioned "Les femmes de l'armée chinoise" ("The women of the Chinese army"), was posted on Sunday and features a number of clips of female soldiers marching in different contexts.

However, the music featured over the top of the clips is well-known to real-time strategy gaming buffs who grew up in the 1990s.

US sends F-16 fighters to Persian Gulf to fend off Iranian ship seizures

The US is sending F-16 fighter jets to the Persian Gulf region to help protect ships from Iranian seizures in the Strait of Hormuz.

The F-16 fighters were expected to arrive in the region over the weekend to augment A-10 attack aircraft that have been patrolling the Strait of Hormuz to deter Iranian ship seizures for more than a week, a defense official told the Associated Press.

The move comes a little more than week after Iran attempted to seize two oil tankers near the strait, according to the US Navy, opening fire on one of the tankers and only retreating when a US guided missile destroyer arrived on the scene.

“The Iranian navy did make attempts to seize commercial tankers lawfully transiting international waters,” said Cmdr. Tim Hawkins, spokesman for the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet, according to the Associated Press. “The U.S. Navy responded immediately and prevented those seizures.”

According to the Navy, an Iranian naval vessel approached the Marshall Islands-flagged TRF Moss in the Gulf of Oman on Wednesday, prompting the Navy to deploy the destroyer USS McFaul, a MQ-9 Reaper drone and a P-8 Poseidon patrol plane to the scene, deterring the Iranian naval vessel.

Just three hours later, the Navy received a distress call from the Bahamian-flagged oil tanker Richmond Voyager off the coast of Oman, where an Iranian naval vessel had closed to within a mile of the tanker and ordered it to stop.

The US Navy sent the USS McFaul to assist the tanker at “maximum speed,” the Navy said.

“Prior to McFaul’s arrival on scene, Iranian personnel fired multiple, long bursts from both small arms and crew-served weapons,” the Navy said, adding that the gunfire directed at the tanker did not cause any damage or casualties.

The US defense official told the Associated Press that the F-16s arriving in the region will give air cover to ships moving through the vital waterways and increase the US military’s visibility in the region in a bid to deter similar Iranian actions.

US Deploying Warship, Planes To Deter Iran Ship Seizures

The United States is deploying a destroyer as well as F-35 and F-16 warplanes to the Middle East to deter Iran from seizing ships in the Gulf, the Pentagon said Monday.

The move came after the Iranian Navy tried to seize two merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman earlier this month, in one incident opening fire at one of the merchant vessels.

"In light of this continued threat and in coordination with our partners and allies, the (Defense) Department is increasing our presence and ability to monitor the Strait and surrounding waters," Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said, calling on Tehran to "immediately cease these destabilizing actions that threaten the free flow of commerce through this strategic waterway."

On Friday, a senior defense official said the United States was flying A-10 Warthog warplanes over the Gulf, armed "with the kinds of munitions that would be useful to go against fast boats and moving targets."

As Iranian "fast attack boats, fast attack craft have increased as a maritime threat, we've tried a number of different ways to tackle them. And the A-10 has proven capable of that," the official added.

Washington said its forces blocked two attempts by the Iran to seize commercial tankers in international waters off Oman on July 5, while Tehran took control of a commercial ship the following day.

In April and early May, Iran seized two tankers within a week in regional waters, and Tehran was also accused of launching a drone attack against an Israeli-owned tanker in November 2022.

There has been a series of such incidents since 2018, when then US president Donald Trump pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal and reimposed crippling sanctions on the Islamic republic, sending tensions soaring.

Talks aimed at reviving the accord remain stalled, but have recently resumed with Oman as an intermediary.

US Deploying Fighter Jets, Navy Destroyer to Gulf After Iran Attempts to Seize Oil Tankers
