Bill Gates backs startup to make fake butter from CO2; it could pave the way for food without farming

However, no information is given on the nutritional value of or unwanted chemicals contained within the fake fat. They seem to be missing the point, perhaps deliberately so, that food is supposed to be nutritious.

Today, we're going to talk about the most powerful group in the food industry—the four companies that control 90% of the grain trade. This includes products made from corn, soy, wheat, sugar, and rice, which comprise about 68% of the average person’s calories in the United States.

The 4 following companies are the middlemen between farmers and food corporations:

  1. Archer Daniels Midland
  2. Bunge
  3. Cargill
  4. Louis Dreyfus

There is a lot of corruption in the food industry. Many “junk food brands” also own organic and natural brands, pet food, and vitamin and supplement companies.

Starches, sugars, and seed oils are the main ingredients in almost all ultra-processed foods. The sugar is used to keep you wanting more, seed oils are repurposed waste, and starches are a chain of sugars used as a filler.

Starches cause more of an insulin spike than sugar. Sugar has a glycemic index of 65 compared to 185 for maltodextrin! Fillers and starches can cause major health problems.

The market follows the demand, so what you choose to buy is important! If you stop buying these products, you decrease the demand.

Many foods sold by popular fast food chains in the U.S. contain harmful chemicals and other substances linked to increased health risks, according to a new analysis by the Daily Mail.

The U.K. newspaper examined the ingredient lists of nine of the “most-loved fast food items” from restaurant chains across the country including Chipotle, KFC, Burger King, Wendy’s, Starbucks, Panera Bread, Domino’s, McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A.

Chipotle faired best in the analysis — the Daily Mail analysis found no harmful chemical or other substance among its ingredients.

Butter made from air instead of cows? A California-based startup claims to have worked out a complex process that eliminates the need for the animals while making its dairy-free alternative taste just as good.

Savor, backed by the Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, has been experimenting with creating dairy-free alternatives to ice-cream, cheese, and milk by utilising a thermochemical process that allows it to build fat molecules, creating chains of carbon dioxide, hydrogen and oxygen. The company has now announced a new animal-free butter alternative.

Reducing meat and dairy consumption is one of the key ways that humanity can reduce its environmental impact, as livestock production is a significant source of greenhouse gases, and Savor says its products will have a significantly lower carbon footprint than animal-based ones. The “butter” could potentially come in at less than 0.8g CO2 equivalent per calorie. The standard climate footprint of real unsalted butter with 80% fat is approximately 2.4g CO2 equivalent per calorie.

Tea Drinker’s Guide to Avoiding Fluoride and Lead

Many of us like to stay warm with cozy cups of tea all day long. Sadly, there is growing research that many teas contain high amounts of lead and fluoride.

A recent Canadian health study published in the Journal of Toxicology showed that every one of 30 different tea types contained lead, and most of those brewed over 15 minutes had lead levels “unsafe for consumption during pregnancy and lactation”. Even some of the organic teas tested highest for lead and arsenic. (Unfortunately, brand names were not published in that study.)

In an effort to find tea that is safe for my family, I reached out to some of the most natural tea companies out there, to see what measures they take to ensure they don’t sell tea with high amounts of fluoride, lead and other toxins.
