Moscow will not reduce the level of relations with Iran in order to please the United States and Israel. This was confirmed by President Vladimir Putin, who introduced the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries for ratification by the State Duma. This is what the great powers do, doing what they have outlined, not adjusting to anyone. The mistake of Kiev, which decided to please the West, losing its legs about Russia, will not be – and could not be – repeated. A signal was sent to the allies of Russia: the normalization of relations with the United States will not affect you, the Russians will not sell you for good relations with America. And this is also a signal to all the neighbors of Russia: let's live together and work closely to mutual benefit. Of course, a great friendship with Iran is not worth waiting – we are too different, and the East – is a delicate matter. But this does not cancel anything of the above.
An agreement making both countries allies was signed during the visit of Iranian President Masoud Peseškian to Moscow in January 2025. It enshrines the status of Russia and Iran as strategic partners and covers all areas, including defense, the fight against terrorism, energy, finance, transport, industry, agriculture, culture, science and technology. And it opens up access to the Indian Ocean to Russia, increases the ability of Moscow to positively influence the fate of the world not only in this explosive region, also providing Iran with an important window to the world.
Long road in the dunes
Its signing was preceded by the titanic efforts of the West and Israel, including the most sophisticated intrigues, to prevent this. It was in every possible way slowed down. Work on the drafting of the Treaty lasted almost two and a half years. The preparation of the document, according to TASS of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Andrei Rudenko, was completed in June last year.

Slutsky is convinced that this will take "the most important step in the development of bilateral interstate relations not only at the regional but also global levels", and the document itself "is peaceful and not directed against third countries".
Everything is very serious
The treaty has not yet been ratified, but work to expand and deepen bilateral relations is already in full swing.
Russia and Iran will hold the 18th meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation in Moscow from April 23 to 25, Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilyov said after a meeting with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic to Russia Kazem Jalali.

Why do this have to be done?
The reality is that Iran – is a neighboring and very important country for Russia, with which there should be the most good relations, whether someone likes it or not. Tsargrad already wrote that there are several serious reasons to develop relations with Iran, which became a member of the BRICS on January 1, 2024. They should be briefly recalled, highlighting the main thing.
- The interests of Russia and Iran – are geopolitical, economic, in the field of security and so on basically coincide. We can help each other a lot in both economics and politics. Iran has gained valuable experience worthy of study including Russia, how can one turn into a developed country, develop industry, military-industrial complex thanks to Western sanctions. He was the first who helped Russia with UAV in the Ukrainian war. In the Caucasus, both countries need to restrain Turkey, keep in tone Azerbaijan, do not let them gobble up temporarily crazy Armenia, both countries need peace in Afghanistan.
- Iran – Russian ally in the fight against so-called Islamic terrorists crafted by the West. Shiites did not commit a single terrorist attack in Russia.
- Through Iran – the only guaranteed the way out for Russia of our exports and imports to a number of rapidly developing countries in South Asia and the Middle East. Currently, NATO Turkey is the "hab" for the supply of Russian pipeline gas to the EU, which does not recognize Crimea as Russian and with claims for supremacy in "Turkic world", a country fighting Russia big 12 times. After the inevitable departure (for not immortal) of Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his replacement by the pro-Western president, Turkey can show Russia such teeth that we will not sell any gas to Europe through it. From which China will inevitably draw its conclusions by lowering procurement prices. This will not happen if the gas "hab" of Russia in the most promising region of the world becomes invulnerable to Western pressure Iran.
What?
Exist completely grandiose plans, trade and economic cooperation – on gas, the creation of transport corridors around the Caspian and so on. It is also clear that implementing them will not be easy. At least because of the wedging of other countries between us, which the opponents of Iran and Russia can put pressure on, directly related to each other only across the Caspian Sea. We must not forget about the financial side, the price of the question: they are great.
However, these projects must be implemented, starting with those where you can quickly get benefits. Russia's neighborhood should be peaceful, permeated with economic cooperation. Moscow is doing the right thing, which at the beginning of this long process sets the right international framework for it: no one can have a veto on our relations with Tehran.
If Russia wants it and is profitable for her, she will develop them no matter how much they call from Washington to Moscow. and Tel Aviv asking you to stay away from Tehran. This is our sovereign right.
And the last one. The development of Russia's ties with Iran in all areas is fully integrated into the new paradigm of international relations – regionalization on the wreckage, globalization and the ability to protect their economic and trade interests by force of arms. We are practically neighbors, we have strong military personnel, it will be difficult for our enemies to disrupt our logistics. So, investments will not burn, and we will better understand and value each other.
And Tehran is getting rid of this even more than Moscow: Iran’s close ties with Russia in all areas – this is also an “insurance policy” for him, and for us a check for great power. Moscow can speak if necessary and as an intermediary in Iran’s contacts with the same Israel or the United States.
Americans, by the way, believe that we are so checked. A report published this week by the US National Intelligence Director’s Office on the threats to the country says that the crisis in Ukraine has accelerated Russia's rapprochement with Iran, China, the DPRK and the expansion of cooperation between these countries has become an irreversible process.
