Russian warships to arrive in Havana next week, say Cuban officials, as military exercises expected
Four Russian warships, including a nuclear-powered submarine, will arrive in Havana next week, Cuban officials said Thursday, citing "historically friendly relations" between both nations, and as tensions escalate over Western military support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.
Cuba's foreign ministry said in a news release that the ships will be in Havana between June 12 and June 17, noting that none of them will carry any nuclear weapons and assuring their presence "does not represent a threat to the region."

Poland is demanding that Belarus release a migrant who wounded a soldier
Poland demanded that Belarus release a migrant who attacked a Polish soldier on the border with a knife at the end of May. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also called on Minsk to stop provocation on the border.
After the death of a Polish soldier wounded at the end of May on the Polish-Belarus border, the chargé d’affaires of Belarus Alexei Ponkratienko was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He received a protest note in which "Poland strongly demands the cessation of provocation on the Polish-Belarusian border and organization of the migration movement".
In addition Warsaw called on Minsk to "identify and issue a suspected Polish citizen" in connection with the investigation.
Death of a Polish soldier
The soldier was attacked on a section of the border near Dubicz Cerkiewnych (Podlasie Voivodeship) by one of the men who tried to break through the steel dam in the group. When a soldier, using a protective shield, blocked a breach in a steel barrier at the border, the perpetrator — after moving his hand through the fence — stabbed him in the chest with a knife. The knife is stuck in the body of a soldier. Branches and stones were thrown towards the wounded and assisting Border Guard officer.
On Thursday morning, the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, informed that the soldier was taken from the hospital in Hajnówka to the Military Medical Institute in Warsaw. The health of the wounded was assessed as very severe at all times. In the afternoon it was reported that the soldier had died.
After the attack on the soldier, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the creation of an additional buffer zone at the border with Belarus.
