Will it finally rain this week? That's what everyone in the Campo de Gibraltar is wondering after the Constitution Day holiday passed without a drop of rain in the region. It seems that this week will be when the first autumn rains finally fall, although in the Strait of Gibraltar, the weather forecasts change from one day to the next.
Aemet (the Spanish meteorological agency) announces the arrival of an Atlantic storm with precipitation and winds that will intensify and position themselves in front of Galicia from Monday afternoon, favoring a new weather instability. On Tuesday, precipitation is expected to be more intense and widespread, affecting almost the entire Iberian Peninsula, with the western half and mountainous areas exposed to south winds being the most affected, while the Mediterranean area will be less affected. In the Campo de Gibraltar, the rain will arrive from Tuesday afternoon when it is expected that the wind will shift to the west and will continue at least until Saturday.
Wind is another significant phenomenon. Strong wind gusts are expected on the Atlantic side of the peninsula and the northern plateau, more likely and intense in mountainous areas of the northwest quadrant and the western Pyrenees.
During the second half of the week, there is increased uncertainty in the forecast, although it is likely that new Atlantic storms will continue to affect our territory. The most likely scenario suggests that Wednesday will be a transition day, waiting for the cold front of a new and deep Atlantic storm to reach the Iberian Peninsula on Thursday. Thus, Wednesday is likely to maintain the unstable atmosphere with precipitation and strong winds, which would intensify and become widespread on Thursday.
Aemet warns that it is still very difficult to determine the end of this episode of intense precipitation and strong winds, characterized by the arrival of successive Atlantic storms. As for the wind, it is most likely that this intense episode will end between Friday and Saturday, but the precipitation could persist into the following week.
