It is unclear how the transmission (aka "shedding") occurs. It could be through casual contact or through intimate contact i.e. sexual contact, specific contact with toxic body fluids / blood. It may also be a combination of both, with tuberculosis being an example, where it is transmitted under certain, specific circumstances that imitate close contact for prolonged periods of time. I am less likely to side with 'casual contact' because that correlates with airborne toxins targeting someone, but airborne toxins are not to be dismissed completely because there is such a thing as 'bad air'.
