The Scofield Reference Bible Perverted Scripture - Christian Zionism
The Scofield Reference Bible, published in 1909, played a significant role in shaping Christian Zionism in America. Cyrus I. Scofield, a lawyer and politician, was commissioned by wealthy Zionists, including Samuel Untermeyer, to write notes and commentary for the Bible. These notes were designed to promote a pro-Zionist interpretation of Scripture, influencing millions of American evangelicals to support the modern State of Israel. The Scofield Reference Bible’s Zionist bias was further amplified by its publication in 1967, 20 years after Scofield’s death. The Oxford University Press, under the influence of Zionist interests, incorporated Scofield’s notes into the 4th edition of the Scofield Study Bible. This edition deified the State of Israel, making it a divine entity, and justified its actions as fulfilling biblical prophecy.
