Georgia: South Ossetia calls for referendum to join Russia

South Ossetia's self-proclaimed government said it was time for the region to "unite once and for all" with Russia. The breakaway republic was at the center of Moscow's military intervention in Georgia in 2008.Georgia's separatist region of South Ossetia announced that it will put up for a vote whether or not to join Russia, the region's government led by Anatoly Bibilov announced on Friday.

The referendum is set to take place on July 17, the government said.."

"We are coming home," Bibilov wrote on messaging app Telegram. "The time has come to unite once and for all. "South Ossetia and Russia will be together. This is the start of a big new story," he added.

Vladimir Putin 'loses his 11th general' in Ukraine war as defenders 'ambush his vehicle in Donbas'

Vladimir Putin was today hit by the death of Russia’s 11th general in his bloody war with Ukraine.

Major-General Roman Kutuzov was the chief of staff of the 29th Combined Arms Army, according to reports.

His vehicle was ambushed by Ukrainians and he died in a fight in Donbas, say sources.

His death is the 11th general, but the first such high ranking army officer in more than a month.

In addition, at least 49 colonels have been killed in the war with Ukraine.

The latest was Lt-Col Zaur Dimayev, deputy commander of the 4th battalion of the Akhmat Kadyrov special forces regiment.

He was a close associate of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

In 2020, Kutuzov was head of the headquarters of the combined arms formation of Russia’s sprawling Eastern Military District.

The previous general to be killed was Kanamat ’Flop Gun’ Botashev, 63.

He was a 'pensioner pilot' who was hit in his Su-25 after coming out of retirement to fly in Putin’s forces.

He was reportedly shot down by a Ukrainian Stinger missile.

There have been unconfirmed claims that Western countries are assisting Ukraine to target high-ranking Russian officers.

Russian sources say Kutuzov was killed in the area of Nikolaevka settlement, in the Popasnyansky district of the Luhansk People’s Republic, close to the frontline.

Russian Official Who Carried Putin's Nuclear Codes Found in 'Pool of Blood'

A retired Russian security officer who was once tasked with carrying President Vladimir Putin's briefcase containing nuclear codes was found shot in his home on Monday, according to reports.

The Russian newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets wrote that Zimin was detained in December on suspicion that he was taking bribes from a businessman on a deal involving a government contract. He was reportedly under house arrest during an ongoing criminal investigation at the time of the shooting incident. Zimin had reportedly denied any wrongdoing in regards to the criminal accusations.

Moskovsky Komsomolets also noted that the nature of Zimin's injuries led to the conclusion that he had tried to take his own life.

The Kyiv Post and other outlets reported that it is believed that Zimin was also charged with carrying the Cheget for former Russian President Boris Yeltsin.

According to official figures, Russia achieved a budget surplus of more than 20 billion euros in the first half of 2022, despite the war and sanctions. Overall, thanks to increased income, the plus is 1.374 trillion rubles (about 23 billion euros), the Ministry of Finance said on Tuesday, according to the Interfax news agency.

Putin Blasts “Globalist” World Order as “Totalitarian”

Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted earlier today that the “globalist” world order is “totalitarian” and is “holding back creative pursuit.”

Putin made the comments during a forum in Moscow.

The notorious leader claimed that the west had only achieved its global preeminence due to the historic plunder of other nations and had no moral right to enforce a unipolar model on the planet.

“The model of the total dominance of the so-called ‘golden billion’ is unjust. Why should this ‘golden billion’ among the planet’s population dominate others, impose its own rules of conduct?” Putin asked.

“Based on the illusion of ‘exclusivity,’ this model divides people into first and second class status, and is therefore racist and neo-colonial in its essence,” he added.

“And the globalist, supposedly liberal ideology which underlies it is increasingly acquiring the features of totalitarianism, holding back creative pursuit, free historical creation,” Putin claimed.

The Russian President went on to stress his view that the globalist world order was built off the exploitation of other countries.

“Of course, this ‘golden billion’ did not become ‘golden’ by accident. It has achieved a lot. But it did not only take up its positions thanks to the realization of some ideas, but to a large extent due to the robbery of other peoples – both in Asia and Africa. That’s what happened.”

He then proclaimed that western elites are terrified that their global order is being dismantled.

“No matter how much Western and so-called supranational elites strive to preserve the existing order of things, a new era is coming, a new stage in world history. And only truly sovereign states can ensure high dynamics for growth and become an example for others,” said Putin.

As we have previously highlighted, Putin has consistently blamed the west for its own downfall.

Back in March, he gave a speech in which he blamed the ‘western ruling elite’ for creating the economic hardships impacting people in Europe and the United States.

Last year, the controversial strongman blasted the west as “completely insane” for allowing children to be taught there is no biological sex, saying the woke crusade against traditional gender roles was “subverting human nature.”

Russia begins building Egypt’s first nuclear power plant

Led by Rosatom, the $30 billion project is expected to be completed by 2028

Russian state-owned energy giant Rosatom has begun construction on the El Dabaa nuclear power plant, the company said in a press release published on Wednesday.

“The start of construction on the El Dabaa power plant’s first reactor means Egypt is now joining the club of the world’s nuclear energy producing nations,” Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachyov said at a ceremony launching the construction.

Located on Egypt’s northern coast, some 130 kilometers northwest of Cairo, El Dabaa will be Egypt’s first nuclear power plant as well as Rosatom’s first major project in Africa.

The plant, which is set to be completed by 2028, will have four VVER-1200 reactors with a total nameplate capacity of 4,800 megawatts.

The construction is financed jointly by Moscow and Cairo, with the Russian government providing 85% of the $30 billion cost in the form of a state loan. The rest will be funded by Egypt with financial backing from private investors.

Under the terms of agreements signed by the two countries, Rosatom will also be supplying nuclear fuel for the plant for its entire 60-year design lifetime, and providing maintenance and repairs for ten years after the launch of each reactor.

Additionally, the company will provide staff training. The first group of future El Dabaa employees started their training at the Saint-Petersburg branch of the company’s Technical Academy back in September 2021. Rosatom is expecting to train 1,700 specialists for the plant in total, both at its academy and at the plant’s own training facility in Egypt.

Involved in a number of large-scale international projects — including the ITER initiative aimed at developing practical nuclear fusion — Rosatom has not been targeted by any of the sanctions imposed on Russia since the start of its military operation in Ukraine on February 24.

However, the company did see its power plant construction deal with Finnish group Fennovoima scrapped in May, a move the latter justified as necessary due to risks associated with the conflict.

Russia will withdraw from the International Space Station (ISS) 'after 2024' to build its own equivalent, the newly appointed chief of state space agency Roscosmos said Tuesday.

'I think that by that time we will start putting together a Russian orbital station,' Roscosmos chief Yury Borisov said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, per a report from the Moscow Times, calling the space program the main "priority."

'Of course, we will fulfill all our obligations to our partners, but the decision to leave this station after 2024 has been made,' Borisov added.

MOSCOW, July 26. /TASS/. Only a part of Russia’s armed forces is involved in its special military operation in Ukraine and the number of troops engaged is sufficient to fulfill the tasks set forth by the commander-in-chief, Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Tuesday with regards to the plans to hold the Vostok 2022 (East 2022) strategic command and staff exercise.

"We are drawing your attention to the fact that only a part of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is engaged in the special military operation and its size is quite sufficient to implement all the tasks set forth by the commander-in-chief," the military agency noted.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Vostok 2022 (East 2022) strategic command and staff drills will be held from August 30 through September 5. The exercise will involve the servicemen of the Eastern Military District.
