A new state-run "exposé" about Finland has been published in Russia. The work could serve as a textbook on how Vladimir Putin's administration engages in a hostile smear campaign against Finland, writes Arja Paananen.
In mid-February, a message appeared on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry with a download link to a new work prepared by the Russian Military History Society . The title of the book, loosely translated into Finnish, is: The Black Book. A Brief History of Swedish and Finnish Russophobia .
I took a risk and downloaded the 120-page creation to my computer.

The book is written as a seemingly "scientific" presentation of all possible abuses and crimes that the Swedes and Finns have allegedly committed against Russians since the 17th century.
The presentation follows the Soviet-style judicial approach, where the prosecutor – in this case, a Kremlin propagandist – does not even have to try to prove that a crime occurred. It is enough for the propagandist to say that it happened or to say that it could have happened .
It is useless for the accused – in this case Finland – to even try to have a rational discussion about the content. There are so many small and big lies that no one has the energy to go through them all – and then it becomes as if they have accepted them as true. Some of the claims contain partial truths, but the conclusions are overwhelming or impossible to verify.
