OVERDUE BUDGET –GRIEF OR RELIEF?

This year’s Budget session in Parliament will start at 10:30 on Tuesday the 20th of July.

The Gibraltar Parliament has published the agenda, which includes the legislation required to appropriate sums of money for the year ending on the 31st of March 2022.

The Chief Minister is expected to open the meeting with a review of government finances for the year just gone, as well as his Government’s plans for the next 12 months.

The Covid-19 pandemic has been so damaging to health and society, very significant resources have been diverted to fight it.

By the 31st of March, Gibraltar's response to the had cost more than £227 million.

That included a loss of £163 million pounds in government revenue.

Against that backdrop, people are braced to see what measures the Government will take to start balancing the books.

Fabian Picardo told GBC it would be a budget that reflects the problems being faced by every nation in the world, which are of no-ones' making but that of the Covid 19 virus.
