JERUSALEM (AP) — Yemen's Houthi rebels fired two ballistic missiles Thursday at a Liberian-flagged container ship in the Red Sea, a U.S. defense official said, the latest attack by the rebels as America launches airstrikes targeting them.

The attack happened west of Hodeida, a port city in Yemen long held by the rebels, said the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, a British military group overseeing Mideast waterways. It said the crew and the vessel were safe and the blast came far off the vessel's starboard side.

The U.S. defense official identified the targeted container ship as the Koi. Its management could not be immediately reached for comment. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters.

The Houthis did not immediately claim responsibility for the assault. The private security firm Ambrey reported Wednesday night that a ship was targeted with a missile southwest of Aden, Yemen, near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The Houthis claimed that attack also targeted the Koi, though American officials had no immediate information on any attack Wednesday night.

MESSAGE FOR JOE BIDEN: DON’T MESS WITH IRAN | NEW RULES

University of Tehran professor Seyed Mohammad Marandi who warned that if a new war breaks out in the Middle East, the US will lose against Iran and its allies in the Axis of Resistance: "The attacks that are taking place in Syria and Iraq show how vulnerable the Americans are. But the real reason right now, why the Americans are occupying Iraq and Syria? They say it's to contain Iran and to limit Iran's influence. But in reality, it's about taking away the sovereignty of countries and to strengthen the Israeli regime."

US Strikes At Least 85 Targets In Iraq & Syria, Including From B1 Bombers

by Tyler Durden

Friday, Feb 02, 2024 - 11:15 PM

Update(1715ET): Importantly, there have been no reports of US airstrikes in Iran this evening, and US officials say that the Pentagon does not plan to hit targets inside the Islamic Republic. But the strikes on eastern Syria and in western Iraq were large, and targeted IRGC assets and personnel and their affiliates. According to a CENTCOM statement, the initial wave, which started at 4pm US Eastern Time (interestingly, just after markets closed), included over 85 targets, with some of them hit more than once:

At 4:00 p.m. (EST) Feb. 02, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted airstrikes in Iraq and Syria against Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force and affiliated militia groups. U.S. military forces struck more than 85 targets, with numerous aircraft to include long-range bombers flown from United States.

The airstrikes employed more than 125 precision munitions. The facilities that were struck included command and control operations centers, intelligence centers, rockets, and missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicle storages, and logistics and munition supply chain facilities of militia groups and their IRGC sponsors who facilitated attacks against U.S. and Coalition forces.

The Biden administration is promising this is not the end of it, and the campaign could last for days or more.

Update(1640ET): The Biden administration has begun its much anticipated retaliatory strikes:

FIRST US MILITARY RETALIATORY STRIKES UNDERWAY IN SYRIA: ABC

Regional analyst Kevork Almassian comments as this initial wave of attacks begins: "The US air force is bombing Eastern Syria near al-Mayadeen. Syria is a sovereign country which has not attacked the United States. A clear violation of international law." US B1 bombers have been involved, according to officials. Initial unconfirmed footage from the region:

The Department of Defense has since suggested the initial eastern Syria strikes which were first reported might be the work of a partner air force, possibly Israel(?). There are a number of reports suggesting Israel is participating as a partner force. Additionally:

  • Initial report of a US attack against targets in the Deir ez-Zor area on the Syria-Iraq border.
  • US Official confirms strikes occurring in Iraq and Syria. “8 targets is just first of many courses” so far
  • Reuters, citing American officials: “The strikes targeted facilities in Iraq and Syria linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and groups that it supports.”
  • Start time was about 4 p.m. Eastern Time.

The administration appears to have waited until market close on Friday to start bombing.

Significant casualties are being reported, and will likely trickle out through the evening.

Confused messaging coming from Biden administration and mainstream reports:

Total chaos in U.S. messaging tonight — with officials confirming & denying US strikes in #Syria & #Iraq tonight.

You’d think after taking 5 days to message every possible detail to #Iran, that confirming action would be simple.

Seems not.

French container shipping giant CMA CGM has announced suspension of all its Red Sea transit due to security risks, Bloomberg has reported Friday, adding to a growing list of major firms now deeming the area too unsafe.

The Bloomberg note additionally confirms that "CMA CGM will keep operating in the northern Red Sea but will not send its fleets through the southern part that is unavoidable for any vessel seeking to use Egypt’s Suez Canal to go between Europe and Asia." With every addition of a shipping major, there's yet further confirmation that the US-led 'Operation Prosperity Guardian' is failing.

THE US IS NOW BOMBING SAANA THE CAPITOL OF YEMEN

US, Britain hit Yemen’s capital in latest attack against Houthis

The attacks come a day after American forces hit several sites in Syria and Iraq.

The bombings in Yemen come a day after American forces launched major airstrikes on 85 targets in Iraq and Syria. Those strikes hit what the U.S. said were militias linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and done in response to a drone attack that killed three American soldiers in Jordan near the Syrian border. The Houthi movement, also supported by Iran, has been attacking ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since October. The Yemeni group says it is attempting to stop shipping traffic through the Red Sea to economically hurt Israel in response to Israel’s war in Gaza. Over the last four months the shipping industry has been economically hit, having to divert vessels to longer routes.

TRUTH ABOUT THE LATEST U.S. STRIKES ON IRAQ & SYRIA | PATRICK HENNINGSEN

How the Houthis could get revenge on the U.S. for airstrikes by cutting a FIFTH of the world's internet

  • Yemen government warns of threat to 'world's digital infrastructure'
  • Some fiber optic cables lie at only 100 meter depth
  • Analysts warn Houthis could drop depth charges

Iranian-backed Houthi militants in Yemen could try to sabotage internet cables in the Red Sea carrying nearly one fifth of the world's web traffic, according to a spate of new warnings.

Yemen's government warned that the Red Sea is 'one of the three most important meeting points for cables' on the globe and the Houthis pose a 'serious threat to one of the most important digital infrastructures in the world.'

It came after a Houthi social media channel published a map showing the routes of various cables through the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and the Arabian Sea.

The map was accompanied with the ominous message: 'It seems that Yemen is in a strategic location, as internet lines that connect entire continents - not only countries - pass near it.'

US Kills Commander Blamed For Drone Strike That Killed American Troops

https://www.emmanuelsblog.com.ng/2024/02/us-kills-commander-blamed-for-drone-strike-that-killed-american-troops.html

A U.S. drone strike blew up a car in the Iraqi capital Wednesday night, killing a high-ranking commander of the powerful Kataib Hezbollah militia who is responsible for “directly planning and participating in attacks” on American troops in the region, the U.S. military said Wednesday. The precision blast hit a main thoroughfare in the Mashtal neighborhood in eastern Baghdad, attracting a crowd as emergency teams picked through the wreckage. It came amid roiling tensions in the region, and will likely further anger Iraqi government leaders, who U.S. officials said were not notified in advance of the strike. Security forces closed off the heavily guarded Green Zone, where a number of diplomatic compounds are located, and there were concerns about social media postings urging protesters to storm the U.S. embassy. There were conflicting reports on the number of those killed, with U.S. officials saying the initial assessment was one, and saying there were no civilians hurt or killed. But two officials with Iran-backed militias in Iraq said that three died, including Wissam Muhammad Sabir Al-Saadi, known as Abu Baqir Al-Saadi, the commander in charge of Kataib Hezbollah’s operations in Syria. Kataeb Hezbollah later announced his death “following the bombing of the American occupation forces” in a statement. Those officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak to journalists. In a statement, U.S. Central Command said “there are no indications of collateral damage or civilian casualties at this time.” It added that the U.S. “will not hesitate to hold responsible all those who threaten our forces’ safety.” The strike — which came at 9:30 p.m. local time — is certain to inflame already seething relations between Washington and Baghdad. It comes just days after the U.S. military launched an air assault on dozens of sites in Iraq and Syria used by Iranian-backed militias and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in retaliation for a drone strike that killed three U.S. troops and injured more than 40 others at a base in Jordan in late January. The U.S. has blamed the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a broad coalition of Iran-backed militias, for the attack in Jordan. President Joe Biden and other top leaders have repeatedly warned that the U.S. would continue to retaliate against those responsible for the Jordan attack. And officials have suggested that key militia leaders would be likely targets. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has regularly claimed strikes on bases housing U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria against the backdrop of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, saying that they are in retaliation for Washington’s support of Israel in its war in Gaza that has killed more than 27,000 Palestinians, according to the Health Ministry in the Hamas-run territory. There have been nearly 170 attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria since Oct. 18, but the latest drone strike in Jordan — the only one in that country so far — was the first to take American troops’ lives. The U.S., in response, has struck back about a half dozen times since Oct. 27, targeting weapons storage sites, command and control centers, training facilities and other locations used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Iranian-backed groups, including Kataib Hezbollah. Wednesday’s U.S. strike in Iraq’s capital drew comparisons to the 2020 drone strike in Baghdad that killed Iran’s Quds Force leader Gen. Qassem Soleimani, in response to attacks on U.S. bases there and an assault on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. That bombing also killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of Iran-backed militias in Iraq known as the Popular Mobilization Forces. And it enraged Iraqi leaders, triggering demands for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the country.

ISRAELI TV EXPOSES LAND ROUTE BYPASSING HOUTHI BLOCKADE IN RED SEA

In a recent revelation by Israeli television Channel 13, details have emerged about Israel's utilization of a land route originating from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and passing through Saudi Arabia and Jordan. This route has been strategically employed to transport cargo, effectively bypassing the Houthi blockade in the Red Sea.

Did Iran just win, without firing a single shot from their own country?

@sentdefender
According to several U.S. Defense Officials, preparations are now underway for a Total or Partial Withdrawal of U.S. and Coalition Forces from Eastern Syria and Iraq due to continued Pressure and Escalations by Iranian-Backed Groups including Kata'ib Hezbollah, while also making it a Priority of getting American Servicemembers to “Safety” prior to any kind a Regional War; the Full Withdrawal could take up to 90 Days but that depends on its Size, Scope, and Urgency.
