PONCHATOULA POLICE OFFICER, 44, DIES UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE ON DUTY, DEPARTMENT SAYS
A 44-year-old Ponchatoula Police officer died unexpectedly while on duty Tuesday (May 28), the department said.
Cpl. Pricilla Dean Pierson was a six-year veteran of the department. Ponchatoula Police chief Bry Layrisson said Pierson was found unresponsive at a Rouses supermarket around 10 a.m., and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Layrisson said the cause of death was not yet known.
Pierson began her career with the department as a part-time communications officer, before rising to the rank of corporal in the patrol division. She leaves behind three children, two stepchildren and husband Larry Pierson, a captain who has served in the Ponchatoula Police Department for more than 25 years, Layrisson said.
“She was a great person, wife and an outstanding mother,” Layrisson said in a statement.
Layrisson said Pierson was on patrol when a concerned citizen called after seeing her unresponsive at the grocery store. Police and fire units were dispatched, along with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office and the parish coroner’s office.
“Our community has experienced a tremendous loss today,” Layrisson said. “We ask that you continue praying for Pricillia’s family, Larry, and her friends and co-workers.”
