The mayor of La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz), Juan Franco, has held a meeting with representatives of the Socio-Cultural Association of Spanish Workers in Gibraltar (Ascteg), during which he discussed the current situation of these workers and the future of their pensions.
The association has handed him a study that will be analyzed for its assessment and potential submission to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is currently in the "final stretch" of negotiations regarding Brexit and its impact on Gibraltar, as reported by the City Council in a statement.
As noted, the future of the 11,000 residents of the city who work on the Rock (Gibraltar) is a "cause for concern" for the mayor, who was accompanied by various council members, including those responsible for Education, Culture, Citizen Participation, and Social Affairs.
Other matters, such as involvement in studies or cultural activities, were the focus of a meeting that, in the mayor's opinion, "could mark a turning point" in the relationship between the City Council and the organization.
Additionally, Juan Franco expressed his interest in gradually increasing the avenues of collaboration and communication between both institutions.
