Joni Mitchell - Woodstock Song lyrics

Woodstock was in 1969 and Joni missed out on going, due to a prior engagement.

It wasn't actually held at Woodstock, but at Bethel, which is Hebrew for House of God.

Woodstock was a music festival held August 15–18, 1969, on Max Yasgur's dairy farm in Bethel, New York, 40 miles southwest of Woodstock.

So it should have been called Bethel Festival - House of God Festival to peace and love, but T.H.E.Y. couldn't have that. So T.H.E.Y. named it Woodstock Festival instead.

[Verse 1]
I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
And I asked him, "Where are you going?"
And this he told me

I'm going on down to Yasgur's Farm
I'm gonna join in a rock and roll band
I'm gonna camp out on the land
I'm gonna get my soul free

[Chorus]
We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to The Garden

[Verse 2]
Then can I walk beside you?
I have come here to lose the smog
And I feel to be a cog in something turning

Well maybe it is just the time of year
Or maybe it's the time of man
I don't know who I am
But you know life is for learning

[Chorus]
We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to The Garden

[Bridge]
By the time we got to Woodstock
We were half a million strong
And everywhere there was song and celebration

And I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky
And they were turning into butterflies
Above our nation

[Chorus]
We are stardust
Billion year old carbon
We are golden
Caught in the devil's bargain
And we've got to get ourselves back to The Garden

Half a million people getting together to promote peace and love. But instead, look around at what has happened since then, especially now with everyone anti-social distancing. :frowning:

"Wish You Were (T)here" referring to Joni Mitchell :slightly_smiling_face:

The story goes that though Joni Mitchell did not attend that festival due to prior obligations, she wrote the song for her friends Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young to sing at "Woodstock". What a friend!!! The song was a big hit. To this day it remains the cornerstone of the "peace/love" festival.

Acts 20:35 I have showed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
