HMS Diamond deployed to Middle East following stopover at Gibraltar

The Royal Navy Destroyer HMS Diamond has been deployed to the Middle East following a short stopover at Gibraltar.

HMS Diamond had a 72-hour rest and recovery visit to the Naval Base, before refuelling for deployment.

She will join the frigate HMS Lancaster, as well as three mine hunters and a Royal Fleet Auxiliary support ship.

The UK Defence Secretary said recent events had proven how critical the Middle East remains to global security and stability.

Grant Shapps said HMS Diamond's deployment will strengthen the Royal Navy's patrols, help to keep critical trade routes open, and enhance the UK's commitment to regional security.
