The Leader of the Opposition has dismissed the Government's accusation that he sought "direct rule" as a distraction from the real issues he says are at stake.
Keith Azopardi said he met with the Governor to formally convey the GSD's views on the Inquiries Act, and that he was never going to have a conversation about assent.
Mr Azopardi says the reality is that the Chief Minister has used his Parliamentary majority to pass a law that is in what many would see as "political self-interest".
Christina Cortes spoke to Mr Azopardi.
Meanwhile, the new Inquiries Act is now in effect.
The Chief Minister published a commencement notice in the Gazette, appointing 28th March as the day the Act comes into operation.
