2020 –

Gibraltar's total death toll in 2020 was 7, which was reported by the Gibraltar Chronicle on Dec. 31.

"We must remember that we started the year having lost 7 Gibraltarians to COVID," said Chief Minister Fabian Picardo.

2021 –

Jan. 3 – The Government confirms the death of an 8th resident of Gibraltar.

Jan. 5 – There are has been a major outbreak of Covid-19 in the Elderly Residential Services (ERS), with residents and staff from Mount Alvernia, the Jewish Home and John Mackintosh Home affected, the Gibraltar Government said, reported the Gibraltar Chronicle.

“In addition to the PCR screening programme, ERS have introduced Antigen testing (LFD Innova), which is carried out on all residents and staff on a daily basis at each shift before entry to the premises ... most residents and staff were asymptomatic ... (protective measures put in place) ....

Two elderly people became the latest Covid 19 victims last night, reported the Olive Press. This brings the total of deaths to 10.

Jan. 6 – A former teacher who had breathing problems became the 11th person to die in Gibraltar, reported The Olive Press.

Jan. 8 –

The latest fatality from Covid-19 - the fifth so far this year and the 12th since the start of the pandemic, reported the Gibraltar Chronicle – "No change to lockdown as Gibraltar records another Covid death on eve of vaccine arrival."

Saturday, Jan. 9 –

Pfizer 5850 vaccines are flown in by the military into Gibraltar, approximately 6 p.m. as reported by Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). The GBC hosts shows footage of its arrival and interviews government and health officials.

Sunday, Jan. 10 –

Government announces Day One is Complete, with a total of 420 vaccines given.

Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) aired Propaganda Piece “NewsWatch” on the arrival of the vaccines and planned distribution.

Government reported 4 more die of Covid, bringing the total number of deaths related to Death toll to 16.

Vaccines to be stored in special freezers in St. Bernard’s Hospital. Chief Minister Fabian Picardo said that they will start jabbing the front-line staff, then the residents of Elderly Residential Services (ERS), and then elderly in community.

Monday, Jan 11 –

Government announces Day Two of its vaccination programme, breaking down the numbers of who was vaccinated.

Tuesday, Jan 12 –

Transmission of COVID-19 in the community remains uncontrolled, and the demand on St Bernard’s Hospital facilities is now at an unprecedented level. Tuesday, six more patients were admitted at Covid-19 Ward, and 13 patients in the Critical Care Unit at St Bernard’s Hospital, reported the Gibraltar Chronicle.

Government confirms another death. The resident had tested positive on 3rd January 2021, although COVID-19 was not the cause of death. This will be reported in today’s statistics as a death with COVID-19.

Government announces one more death: The deceased was a woman aged 75-80 years old, who died this afternoon of COVID-19 pneumonitis. This will be recorded in tomorrow’s statistics as a death from COVID-19. Total deaths at 18.

Government confirms 3 further deaths in (Elderly Residential Services (ERS). Over the course of 2 days, 7 residents died.

Wednesday, Jan. 13 –

Government announced Day Three Stats (Jan 12), reporting 1056 vaccinations were given this day.

Government confirms two elderly deaths, bringing the total death toll to 20, one died yesterday and one this morning.

Government has confirmed 3 further deaths in Elderly Residential Services today, bringing the total to 23.

Thursday, Jan. 14 –

Government confirms the loss of 2 residents of Gibraltar overnight related to COVID-19. Death toll is 25.

Friday, Jan. 15 –

Government announces the loss of 5 more residents of Gibraltar related to COVID-19. This announcement brings the total number of deaths to 30.

Saturday, Jan. 16 –

The Government confirms 4 further deaths from COVID-19. This brings the total number of deaths to 34.

Sunday, Jan. 17 –

The Government confirms the loss of 9 more. This brings the total number of deaths to 43.

Death spike occurs over the weekend, with all recorded as being deaths from Covid-19, as reported in The Gibraltar Chronicle. Gibraltar recorded another 13 Covid-related deaths over a “devastating” weekend that drove the death toll to 43 since the start of the pandemic.

During the past week alone, 27 people have passed away either as a direct result of the virus or while infected with it. Nine Covid-related deaths were recorded on Sunday, the worst in a single day since the public health crisis almost a year ago.

Monday, Jan. 18 –

Picardo: 38 Gibraltarians have died in the last 18 days since the start of the year. In the last 24 hours alone, we have lost another 2. I believe we will see more deaths amongst the frail elderly at ERS. 9 persons are now in CCU. Of these, 8 are on ventilators. 34 are in the COVID-19 wards.

We have been vaccinating well over 500 people a day. Do not believe the lies that anyone has died from the vaccine in Gibraltar. It is not true. Trust only the information provided by official sources and our established media. Do not trust what you hear in an audio message circulated virally on WhatsApp.

Royal Gibraltar Police begin Investigation into WhatsApp Audio Message.

During the last 24 hours, a WhatsApp audio message has caused considerable alarm, upset and anger across Gibraltar by suggesting that a frontline worker had died shortly after having received the Covid vaccine.

They confirm no deaths from vaccine. They have clarified the deceased worked in a care home away from Gibraltar; she had underlying health issues; her cause of death was registered as being caused by heart disease and she had the vaccine several days prior to dying.

Expatia reports "Gibraltar reels as Covid deaths quadruple in fortnight." Gibraltar was reeling on Monday after 13 people died from Covid-19 at the weekend, with soaring infections driving its death toll up fourfold in under a fortnight. The tiny British enclave of 34,000 residents at the southern tip of Spain said on Sunday that nine people had died over a 24-hour period in its highest daily figure yet. Four others died on Saturday.

Tuesday, Jan. 19 –

Government confirms the deaths of 2 residents, bringing the total deaths to 47.

These deaths also reported by The Olive Press– "Two more elderly people have become the latest Covid19 victims as more vaccines jet into The Rock."

Government reports: Following a successful first week of the COVID-19 vaccination programme in Gibraltar, the UK has confirmed the arrival dates for the next supplies. 4875 doses of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine will arrive in Gibraltar, via the RAF tomorrow Wednesday 20th January. The vaccination centre are now offering appointments to those who are over the age of 65 as well as to non-clinical essential front line staff.

Wedneday, Jan. 20 –

Government confirms the deaths of 6 residents, bringing the total number of deaths to 53.

Thursday, Jan. 21 –

The Government of Gibraltar (GoG) confirms 6 further deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 59.

Government reports COVID-19 vaccination programme continues in earnest

Gibraltar Chronicle reports "Gibraltar’s ‘heartbreaking’ death toll from Covid-19 now stands at 59, after a further six deaths were confirmed on Thursday."

So far this week 16 deaths with conditions related to Covid-19 have been confirmed. This week two have died on Monday from Covid-19, two on Tuesday, six on Wednesday and six on Thursday. Of the 59 Covid related deaths, 52 have taken place this year and seven in 2020. Deaths are reported as Covid-19 pneumonitis and underlying health conditions. Since the pandemic began, 52 have died from Covid-19 and 7 with Covid-19.

The Gibraltar Chronicle reports another 4000 doses arrive.

The Gibraltar Panorama reports, "The Gibraltar government is convinced that there will not be any major operational complications obstructing the roll out of the coronavirus vaccine, as the fight continues, with the number of inoculations being ramped up daily." (Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Garcia's dad is the owner and editor of Gibraltar Panorama).

Friday, Jan. 22 –

Government deeply confirms 3 deaths yesterday afternoon and evening from COVID-19. This brings the total number of deaths to 62.

Since the last address by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo (on Monday), there have been 14 more confirmed deaths; and of these, 7 were residents of Elderly Residential Services (ERS).

In the last 24-hrs, there has been one additional admission to the Critical Care Unit at St Bernard’s Hospital. There have been 3 admissions to Victoria Ward and 1 admission to John Ward. The overall picture presents us with 11 patients in the CCU, of whom 9 are ventilated.
