Newly declassified documents at the National Archives show how the Foreign Office made attempts to manage the diplomatic fall-out following the visit of former President George Bush to Gibraltar.
The visit aboard his yacht in 1993 was the subject of a direct complaint by the Spanish King, who met with him hours later in Madrid.
