BRITISH ROYAL NAVY NEWS

The Royal Navy’s fourth Astute-Class nuclear powered submarine, HMS Audacious is paying her first visit to the Rock.

The Naval Base is hosting two nuclear submarines of different nationalities.

Audacious, a hunter/killer submarine, is one of the largest and most advanced submarines ever built, at a cost of £1.492 billion, displacing almost 8,000 tonnes.

Her roles include covert intelligence gathering and strategic strike with the Tomahawk Land Attack Missile on board as well as Spearfish heavyweight torpedoes.

Launched in 2017, she entered service last year.

Last week Spain lodged a complaint with the US after the nuclear submarine USS Georgia stopped at Gibraltar and not at the base in Rota.
