The Lie That You Must Be Good Enough to Receive God's Help
by cybe and his clanker
version 0.1.1 (let's collaborate, please?)
Recognising the adversary's trap of fear, shame and self-doubt
Do you sometimes feel unworthy of help, not good enough for God, too weak to succeed, or discouraged because you are progressing so slowly?
Consider the possibility that you are believing a lie.
Scripture calls Satan the accuser of our brethren (Revelation 12:10). One of the most destructive spiritual traps is to convince someone that their weaknesses make them unworthy of the very help they need.
But what does God actually say?
When you feel too weak:
"My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness."
— 2 Corinthians 12:9
When you believe you must earn God's help:
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God"
— Ephesians 2:8
When your progress seems painfully slow:
"For who hath despised the day of small things?"
— Zechariah 4:10
When fear and self-doubt hold you back:
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
— 2 Timothy 1:7
When you feel overwhelmed or undeserving:
"Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
— Matthew 11:28
Recognise the contradiction
God offers strength to the weak, grace to the imperfect, and help to those who struggle.
Yet the adversary's accusation would have you believe that being weak is precisely why you should not seek strength.
Do you see the trap?
It turns humility into self-condemnation, patience into discouragement, and awareness of your imperfections into an excuse to stop growing.
Taking small steps is not failure. Refusing to take the next step because you believe you are unworthy is the trap.
Do not confuse the accusing voice in your mind with the voice of God.
Accept His help. Learn with humility. Keep moving towards the Light.
You do not need to become perfect before you begin. Growth is part of the journey towards perfection.
Sura 39:10. Say: "O ye My servants who believe! Fear your Lord, good is (the reward) for those who do good in this world. Spacious is "I AM"'s Earth! Those who patiently persevere will truly receive a reward beyond measure!"
Col. 3:12 Put on therefore, as the Elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a complaint against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also [do] ye. 3:14 And above all these things [put on] compassion, which is the bond of perfectness.
3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Prov. 19:11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and [it is] his glory to pass over a transgression
Matt. 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.
Sura 48:28. It is He Who has sent His Messenger with Guidance and the Religion of Truth, to proclaim it over all religion: and enough is "I AM" for a Witness.
Sura 9:103. Of their goods, take alms, that so thou mightest purify and sanctify them; and pray on their behalf. Verily thy prayers are a source of security for them: and "I AM" is One Who heareth and knoweth.
9:104. Know they not that "I AM" doth accept repentance from His votaries and receives their gifts of charity, and that "I AM" is verily He, the Oft-Returning, Most Merciful?
9:105. And say: "Work (righteousness): soon will "I AM" observe your work, and His Messenger, and the Believers: soon will ye be brought back to the Knower of what is hidden and what is open: then will He show you the truth of all that ye did."
9:106. There are (yet) others, held in suspense for the command of "I AM", whether He will punish them, or turn in mercy to them: and "I AM" is All-Knowing, Wise.
Sura 24:51. The answer of the Believers, when summoned to "I AM" and His Messenger, in order that He may judge between them, is no other than this: they say, "We hear and we obey": it is such as these that will attain joy.
Sura 6:160. He that doeth good shall have ten times as much to his credit: he that doeth evil shall only be recompensed according to his evil: no wrong shall be done unto (any of) them.
Sura 3:150. Nay, God is your protector, and He is the best of helpers.
Sura 8:30. Remember how the Unbelievers plotted against thee, to keep thee in bonds, or slay thee, or get thee out (of thy home). They plot and plan, and "I AM" too plans, but the Best of Planners is "I AM"
Sura 35:1. Praise be to "I AM", Who created (out of nothing) the heavens and the Earth, Who made the angels, flying messengers,- two, or three, or four: He adds to Creation as He pleases: for "I AM" has power over all things.
