Andrew Mackinley recounts conversation with Blair during Joint Sovereignty negotiations

Freeman of the City of Gibraltar, Andrew Mackinlay, has told GBC that Tony Blair's mind was made up to abandon the 2002 Joint Sovereignty negotiations because he realised there were hundreds of thousands of former servicemen who had passed through Gibraltar and were potential Labour voters.

Mr Mackinlay, one of the founder members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Gibraltar, was also part of the Foreign Affairs Committee that criticised the Labour Government at the time.

Mr Mackinlay also describes Brexit as an act of national self-harm, and believes the UK would overturn it if a referendum was held today.

The full half-hour interview, recorded in London, will play on Viewpoint on Thursday at 9.30pm.
