Ukraine updates: Russia to expel German diplomats

Russia said on Saturday that it was expelling more than 20 German diplomats in what it said was a tit-for-tat move after it claimed Germany had expelled numerous Russian diplomats.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel that Moscow was responding in kind to Berlin's "mass expulsion of employees of Russian diplomatic missions in Germany."

She later told Russian state-run television that "more than 20" German diplomats would be expelled.

German news agency DPA also reported on Saturday that a Russian aircraft had been granted special diplomatic permission to land in Berlin, but the reason was not given.

The German Foreign Ministry said it took note of Russia's statements.

Cyprus cracking down on Russian sanctions cheats

Cyprus' Financial Commissioner Pavlos Ioannou on Saturday said his country was cracking down on individuals and institutions helping Russian oligarchs avoid US and UK sanctions.

Russia advises citizens against traveling to Canada

Russia's Foreign Ministry is advising citizens against traveling to Canada, claiming there have been numerous physical attacks on Russians in the North American country. The ministry further advised those Russians already in Canada to remain vigilant, especially when in public.

Canada long ago advised its own citizens against travel to Russia. It is one of Ukraine's biggest supporters and has placed sanctions on several Russian businesses and individuals. It has also issued far-reaching embargo rules.

Russia recently issued sanctions of its own against Canadian officials and celebrities.

Ukraine needs '10 times more" Western arms

Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrew Melnyk on Saturday released a tweet saying, "We are thankful to our allies for their military help. But: it is not enough. Ukraine needs 10 times more to finish Russian aggression this year."

Spain ships first battle tank batch to Ukraine

Spain sent out on Saturday its first batch of Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine, as part of the wider Western initiative to provide Kyiv with heavy tanks to defend itself against Russia's invasion.

Six Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks took off on a ship in the northern Spanish port city of Santander. Some 20 light armored transport vehicles were also shipped.

Four more battle tanks should be delivered at a later date.

The Leopard 2A4 tanks are an older version of the German-made 2A6 tanks. They were taken out of active service in Spain over a decade ago.

The delivery comes one day after the US said it was preparing to send its Abrams tanks in the coming weeks, to help train Ukrainian soldiers.

IAEA warns of escalation around Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has warned of a nuclear accident due to the increasing hostilities around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine.

"I saw clear signs of military preparations in the area when I visited the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant three weeks ago," IAEA Director Rafael Grossi said on Friday, according to a statement from the agency.

Since then, the nuclear experts stationed on site have repeatedly registered explosions in the immediate vicinity of the plant, Grossi added. He was "deeply concerned" about the current situation.

The power plant was occupied by Russian troops shortly after the start of the Russian invasion 14 months ago. The Zaporizhzhia region is considered one of the possible directions of the Ukrainian counteroffensive.

MORE CRIMEA ATTACKS? UKRAINE WARNING TO RESIDENTS AFTER BLAZE AT RUSSIAN NAVY’S SEVASTOPOL DEPOT

Ukrainian military intelligence has urged residents of Crimea to stay away from Russian military facilities ahead of a much-anticipated counteroffensive. The warning came soon after a suspected drone attack in Sevastopol caused a massive fire at the Russian navy’s fuel depot on April 29. Ukrainian officials have hinted at a successful strike on Russian targets in Crimea, without openly admitting Kyiv’s involvement .The Ukrainian military’s Southern Command said, “this work is a preparation for the broad, full-scale offensive that everyone expects".

The much heralded Ukraine "counteroffensive" starting point was clear to military tacticians from the beginning but for the rest of us it SEEMS to be getting confirmed now: Zaporozhye. Obvious question now is, might this be a "feint?"

Here's the situation as of April 30, 2023:

Ukrainian formations are finishing preparations for the announced offensive. In the Zaporozhye region, a comprehensive training was held with reserve units to enter the designated area and organize communications in the field.

A battalion of the 116th mechanized brigade of the 10th army corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine arrived at the Orekhovsky area. In addition, the command of the 128th Guards Rifle Brigade began moving assault groups to the front line. One of the units of the brigade arrived in Shcherbaki.

In Omelnik, a forward command post for a group of troops was equipped. The other day, Ukrainian signalmen established a closed communication channel between the 108th troop unit and the country's leadership in Kiev for interaction during the offensive.

Paratroopers of the 46th airborne brigade of the Airborne Forces of Ukraine were deployed to the Gulyai-Polye sector . At least one battalion of the formation was understaffing in Pavlograd in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

A group of special operations forces of Ukraine arrived at the Belogorye-Charivnoe line. SSO sniper crews equip firing points on the front line.

Over the past few days, fuel, ammunition and military equipment have been actively transported through the island of Khortytsya to the Zaporozhye direction.

Also, additional tactical aircraft Su-25 and MiG-29 from the base in Starokonstantinov flew to the airfields Shirokoe and Dolgintsevo near Zaporozhye and Krivoy Rog.

RUSSIA

Needless to say, Russian military intelligence has been monitoring and sees everything described above - plus a LOT more.

The Russians have yet to deploy any major portion of their army; the Wagner PMC has been doing the brunt of the work.

It seems obvious based on the way things are being laid out that Ukraine is "going for broke" with a "Hail Mary" type of counter-offensive. If it succeeds, they're still in the game. If it fails, Ukraine is done.

Given that reality, is is also clear to even the most casual observers that Russia's defense against the Ukraine counter-0ffensive, is likely to be horrifying. Deployment of Russian forces is such that Ukraine may find itself STOMPED at an order of magnitude not previously seen.

Whatever happens, it sure looks as though we are in a very small time window before it all starts.

One thing is certain: An awful lot of men are going to die.

All this, for what? So Ukraine can join NATO and aim missiles at Russia?

What a useless reason to kill so many.

The United States is the only country in history to have used all three types of weapons of mass destruction (nuclear, biological, chemical), starting with the atomic bombings of Japan in the closing months of the Second World War to mass usage of chemical and biological weapons against numerous other countries it has attacked ever since (particularly Vietnam). And yet, the belligerent thalassocracy just adores chest-thumping about its supposed “morality” and even “warns” that its geopolitical adversaries are about to use such weapons (naturally, without ever providing any evidence). This is precisely what’s been happening in Ukraine in recent weeks.

On April 28, one of the most prominent neoliberal mouthpieces, the New York Times, ran a story about America setting up numerous radiation sensors across Ukraine in order to detect nuclear blasts. The NYT claims that “such sensors can detect‌‌ bursts of radiation from a nuclear weapon or a dirty bomb and can confirm the identity of the attacker”. It adds that “the goal is to make sure that if Russia detonates a radioactive weapon on Ukrainian soil, its atomic signature and Moscow’s culpability could be verified”, further claiming that “…experts have worried about whether President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia would use nuclear arms in combat for the first time since the American bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945″.

America’s neocon citizens with Ukrainian roots are currently trying to push Ukraine into a Spring offensive everyone knows will be a massacre just to cover their own asses, so they will have an excuse to cut and run in time for the coming Presidential election. Given the disgraceful alliance between a Federal regime risking nuclear war with no proper authority from the American people and what used to be a press, which is now little more than the government’s collaborator in suppressing the facts of what is happening, the American people have NO IDEA what is going on in their name.

The current Congress is still as indifferent to the Executive Branch’s infringement of its “War Powers” authority as it is to its key responsibility in enacting budgetary legislation. Both political parties are all too willing to leave their Legislative responsibilities to the Administrative state and concentrate on what is really important: fundraising. The American people are being lulled with the lie they are “supporting a plucky little Ukrainian democracy against a totalitarian invasion by evil Russians bent on conquest” while their elected Congress stands in the aisles and cheers a “Churchillian” Zelensky, dictator of the most corrupt state in Europe who is stealing their money.

But the Russians have been running methodical textbook attacks destroying the assembly area for the 13 brigades the leaked Pentagon Papers said would be used in the offensive. So far 9 of the vital HQ detachments of the brigades have been attacked. That targeted a lot of the key veteran personnel desperately needed to lead the inexperienced new troops, desperately raised in a Ukranian last stand.

The Ukrainian assembly areas themselves are near railhead bottlenecks up and down the line of engagement where armored vehicles and supporting artillery are assembled, munitions and other supplies are stored , and troops are concentrated. Hundreds of tons of artillery ammunition and missiles have been destroyed and thousands of troops have been killed or injured.

The Ukrainians have had difficulty dispersing their assembly areas because the mudpits of the rasputina surrounds them on every side until the ground dries out. They are literally stuck in the mud. They have concentrated too early. And the Russians have taken full advantage of it.

The Russians have sent a mix of hundreds of missiles and drones from Murmansk, the Caspian Sea, and Crimea as well as Cold War bombers with glide bombs from Russia. And there are more where those came from while the Ukrainians, already suffering from shortages of key equipment and munitions have just taken more losses further handicapping their impending offensive with even more shortages. Russian intelligence is excellent. Its planning and response, inexorable.

As Mark Wauck summarizes “Ukraine’s professional military knows that the offensive would be suicidal. Ukrainian losses of manpower continue to be extremely heavy—Russia is claiming that Ukraine lost 15,000 men in April. Losses of equipment are reaching catastrophic levels as well, as Russian attacks have heavily targeted assembly areas for munitions and equipment.”

If Zelensky’s cowardice allows America’s foreign policy neocon scum to push Ukraine into a doomed offensive, it will be the most wasted effusion of blood yet in this catastrophic “proxy war.” And it will be the most disgraceful ending possible to the Neocon’s 30 years “forever war” that dropped the United States from a half century illusion of dominant hegemony to an also ran with an obsolete defense establishment and a wrecked economy, all in less than 2 years.

Is Someone Trying To Provoke Russia Into Using Tactical Nuclear Weapons Against Ukraine?

When you are standing on the brink of the unthinkable, it can be way too easy for someone to come along and push you over the edge. I don’t know who just attacked the Kremlin with drones, but it was obviously done for a reason. Whoever did it knew, or should have known, that the Russians would strike back really hard. Just imagine how we would feel if there were explosions at the White House. Russian leaders are extremely angry, and some of them are openly talking about using tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine. But if that happens, our world could be completely turned upside down. The Biden administration has hinted that the U.S. would use tactical nuclear weapons against Russian forces if the Russians use tactical nukes against Ukraine, and so let us hope that cooler heads will prevail.

Because once the nukes start flying, there is no turning back.

Kremlin Publicly Accuses U.S. of Being Behind Drone Attack/Attempted Assassination of Putin

The Kremlin has accused the US of being behind an "assassination attempt" on Vladimir Putin yesterday.

According to President Vladimir Putin's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, Moscow is considering "various" options in response to the Wednesday morning drone attack on the Kremlin, which it accuses Ukraine of orchestrating "under the dictate of Washington."

Washington is "definitely" behind the alleged assassination attempt on Vladimir Putin yesterday, the Kremlin has said.

Moscow claimed two drones attempted to attack the Kremlin, but were disabled and failed to cause any damage.

Russia has multiple response options, it said, but declined to comment on whether Volodymyr Zelenskyy was a legitimate target.

The Kremlin claimed the US was selecting the targets and Ukraine was merely implementing American plans, without providing evidence.

John Kirby, the National Security Council’s Coordinator for Strategic Communications, called accusations from Russia that the US directed Ukraine to carry out an alleged Kremlin drone attack and assassination attempt on President Vladimir Putin "ridiculous."

For Kyiv and Washington to try to disown the incident was "absolutely ridiculous", the Kremlin said.

Mr. Zelenskyy has denied that Kyiv had anything to do with the incident.

Some experts have suggested Moscow itself could have created the incident as a false flag operation, intended to boost Russian support for the war.

Within the past 60 minutes, Russian artillery surrounding what is left of Bakhmut, has begun firing Thermite Incendiery shells upon the entire area still occupied by Ukrainian troops. Whatever is left of the city after months of fierce fighting, is being incinerated.

As of 6:30 PM EDT on 5 May 2023, it is not known how many Ukrainian troops remain in the city, or how any of them can survive this onslaught.

Rumors have been circulating most of today claiming the much-vaunted "Ukraine Counter-Offensive" would begin in earnest "very soon." Those rumors have now coalesced to statements that claim EITHER a) The counter-offensive will begin in several hours today, OR; b) It will begin this Sunday.

What is clearly factual is that Authorities in Russian controlled Zaporozyhe have ORDERED 70,000 civilians to "evacuate immediately."

That evacuation is now clearly evident in traffic jams leading OUT of Melitopol, heading into Crimea. Worse, there are "miles long lines" at gas stations with people trying to put fuel in their cars to make the evacuation trip.
