Israelâs ceasefire and hostage release agreement with Hamas has been finalized in the 11th hour, finally bringing peace to the region.
The ceasefire will take effect on Sunday, handing President Donald Trump an early foreign policy win just hours before his inauguration.
The deal was thrown into doubt Thursday after 11th-hour demands from Hamas and infighting within Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahuâs right-wing coalition.
However, those issues have reportedly been worked out.
âI am confident, and I fully expect that implementation will begin, as we said, on Sunday,â Joe Bidenâs Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.
Israelâs cabinet approved the ceasefire on Friday, followed by a vote in Israelâs parliament, the Knesset.
âA few minutes ago I received a final announcement that all obstacles have been overcome and the deal is underway,â Aryeh Deri, chairman of the Shas party in the Knesset, said Friday.
The ceasefire ends 15 months of war in Gaza, where thousands have been killed and dozens of Israelis held in captivity since Hamasâs brutal October 7 assault.
The Israeli government has already contacted the families of 33 hostages who will be released over 42 days as part of âphase one.â

Israel ATTACKS West Bank After Trump LIFTS SANCTIONS On Settlers
After Trump canceled sanctions on settlers, Israel launched deadly raids on the West Bank.
Col Doug Macgregor: Trump & Israel: The Latest
Fragile Ceasefire: The ceasefire between Israel and Gaza was always temporary, intended to provide a break for the Israeli Defense Forces and facilitate the release of hostages. However, it is expected that military operations in Gaza will resume with devastating force. Trump's Role: Former President Trump's offhand remarks about clearing out Gaza and encouraging neighboring countries to accept Palestinian refugees reflect a lack of understanding of the region's complexities. Refugees are unwilling to leave, as doing so would mean the end of their identity and cause. Israel's Strategy: Israel's actions in Gaza resemble "Mongolian warfare," characterized by destruction and mass killings. This raises moral and strategic questions about whether such an approach aligns with American values or interests.
U.S. Interests: Initially, U.S. interests centered on regional stability and peace. However, the support for Israel's actions has alienated much of the Arab world, poisoning relationships with key regional players like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt. The speaker argues that continuing to unconditionally support Israel undermines long-term U.S. strategic and economic interests. Two-State Solution: The possibility of a two-state solution appears unlikely due to Israel's unwillingness to compromise and the lack of a credible Palestinian leadership acceptable to both Israelis and Palestinians. Recommendations for U.S. Policy: The U.S. should disengage from supporting Israel's actions in Gaza unconditionally. Focus should shift to rebuilding relationships in the Arab world for economic and strategic benefits. The speaker emphasizes that supporting mass killings or expulsions in Gaza is unsustainable and detrimental to U.S. interests. Broader Implications: The conflict has lasting consequences for U.S. relations in the region and globally. The speaker urges a policy shift, warning that unconditional support for Israel will continue to erode America's credibility and influence. The overarching message is that the U.S. must reevaluate its role in the Middle East, prioritize diplomacy, and disengage from supporting actions that harm its long-term interests. - DD.
