A rocket with a lunar landing craft blasts off on Russia's first moon mission in nearly 50 years

Roscosmos, Russia's space agency, said it wants to show Russia "is a state capable of delivering a payload to the moon," and "ensure Russia's guaranteed access to the moon's surface."

"Study of the moon is not the goal," said Vitaly Egorov, a popular Russian space analyst. "The goal is political competition between two superpowers—China and the U.S.—and a number of other countries which also want to claim the title of space superpower."

A February report from the Defense Intelligence Agency suggests that both China and Russia are developing space-based weapons and that they could be in orbit next year.

Pentagon Wants to Test A Space-Based Weapon in 2023

Defense officials want to test a neutral particle-beam in orbit in fiscal 2023 as part of a ramped-up effort to explore various types of space-based weaponry. They’ve asked for $304 million in the 2020 budget to develop such beams, more powerful lasers, and other new tech for next-generation missile defense. Such weapons are needed, they say, to counter new missiles from China, Russia, North Korea and Iran. But just figuring out what might work is a difficult technical challenge.

LATAM confirms Boeing 787 pilot died after requiring emergency landing in Panama

The Chilean carrier LATAM has confirmed that a pilot who flew for the airline for 25 years has died after the aircraft made an emergency landing at Tocumen International Airport (PTY) in Panama City.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was travelling from Miami International Airport (MIA) on August 14, 2023, when the pilot became ill and required emergency aid.

The flight, with 271 passengers on board, was three hours into its journey to Santiago in Chile when the pilot reportedly became incapacitated and required assistance from the flight crew.

According to Newsroom Panama, the Civil Aeronautical Authority of Panama said it received a call from Flight LA505 asking to enter Panamanian airspace and land at PTY.

There were three pilots on board the flight, so the aircraft was able to land safely with two people at the controls.

Latam Airlines Group reports that flight LA505 yesterday, which was on the Miami-Santiago route, had to land at the Tocumen International Airport in Panama, due to a medical emergency for one of the three members of the command crew,” a spokesperson for LATAM said.

When the plane landed, emergency services provided life-saving help, but the pilot sadly passed away.

“We are deeply moved by what has happened and we extend our sincere condolences to the family of our employee. We are deeply grateful for his 25-year career and his valuable contribution, which was always distinguished by his dedication, professionalism and dedication. During the flight, all the necessary safety protocols were carried out to safeguard the life of the affected pilot,” LATAM said.

The aircraft eventually continued onto Santiago on August 15, 2023, at around 5:30 pm local time.

China finds foreign source of drinking water

Kyrgyzstan has invited Beijing to tap into its plentiful glaciers

Kyrgyzstan is ready to export drinking water from its glaciers, Prime Minister Akylbek Zhaparov said during his visit to China this week.

He made the comment during his meeting with Wang Da, the chairman of Qingdao Laoshan Mineral Water Company, noting the unrealized potential of the country’s water resources.

Russian spacecraft crashes into the moon. What went wrong?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/russian-spacecraft-crashes-into-the-moon-what-went-wrong/ar-AA1fz3FC

An unmanned Russian spacecraft was set to become the first to ever land on the moon’s south pole Monday, but the mission unexpectedly failed when the spacecraft spun into an uncontrolled orbit and crashed into the moon.

The Luna-25 lander was the country’s first lunar mission since the 1970s, The New York Times reported.

What went wrong?

Russia’s space agency, Roscosmos, stated that it lost contact with the robotic spacecraft on Saturday, 47 minutes after the engine started firing to enter the moon’s orbit.

As Luna 25 attempted the pre-landing orbit, it reported an “emergency situation.”

“The apparatus moved into an unpredictable orbit and ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the surface of the moon,” Roscosmos confirmed in a statement, per The Associated Press.

It is unclear what caused the crash. However, Dr. Natan Eismont, a senior scientist of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told The New York Times he believed that most likely “the braking thrust was either too strong or it was in a wrong direction.”

An interagency commission will investigate the reasons for the mission’s failure, CNN reported.

The space race to the lunar south pole

The Luna-25 mission was in a space race against India to become the first country to land a spacecraft on the moon’s south pole. Scientists believe the area may have frozen water that would be invaluable to future missions.

The Russian spacecraft’s unsuccessful landing means India may win the race to the lunar south pole.

India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission is scheduled to land on the moon Wednesday, according to the Indian Space Research Organisation, or ISRO.

Tens of Thousands of Mothers Sue Makers of Tylenol for Pregnancy Use that Led to Babies Born with Autism

Tens of thousands of mothers are suing the makers of Tylenol for using the popular over-the-counter pain reliever during pregnancy, which resulted in them giving birth to babies diagnosed with autism.

Tens of thousands of mothers are suing the makers of Tylenol in a class-action lawsuit that claims its use during pregnancy led babies to be born with autism.

A study from the NIH found that pregnancy exposure to acetaminophen, the main ingredient in Tylenol, may increase a child’s risk for autism and ADHD.

Karleen DeGroodt is among the mothers in the lawsuit and discussed her use of Tylenol during pregnancy and her son’s autism during an appearance on NewsNation’s “Prime.” (Full article.)

Last October, a federal judicial panel consolidated dozens of these lawsuits alleging that acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol and generic versions of the drug, can cause autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

TorHoerman Law is one of the law firms representing these mothers, and they have produced the following video explaining the lawsuit.
The popular over-the-counter pain medication Tylenol, when used during pregnancy, has been linked to risks to children including autism, ADHD, and other brain development injuries.

If you took Tylenol during pregnancy and your child suffers from autism or ADHD, you may qualify to participate in the Tylenol Autism ADHD Lawsuit.
The main defendant in the lawsuit is Kenvue, which is the former Johnson & Johnson’s consumer health unit that is now a “spin-off” of J&J. (Source)

Co-defendants in the lawsuit are CVS Health, Rite Aid Corp, Safeway Inc, Target Corp and Walgreens Boots Alliance, which are being charged with failing to warn consumers about the risks of Tylenol.

Kenvue has suffered some setbacks in recent weeks in trying to get some of the lawsuits dismissed, with one of the reasons given to dismiss the lawsuits being that the FDA had approved the product and its labels.

Kenvue Inc cannot immediately appeal a federal judge’s order allowing lawsuits claiming that its popular over-the-counter painkiller Tylenol can cause autism in children of mothers who take it during pregnancy, the judge has ruled.

U.S. District Judge Denise Cote in Manhattan on Thursday ruled that Kenvue, formerly Johnson & Johnson’s consumer health unit, had not shown any basis for allowing the unusual step of an appeal to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals before final judgment in the case.

In April, Cote denied Kenvue’s motion to dismiss one of the lawsuits on the grounds that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s approval of Tylenol’s label preempted any state law claims. Had she ruled in the company’s favor, it would have ended the entire litigation. (Source.)

The amount of studies published in the medical journals linking Tylenol taken during pregnancy to babies born with autism is overwhelming.
