No survivors after plane heading to Ohio for plant fire crashes in Arkansas
There were no survivors after a plane carrying five people coming to Ohio to assist with a metals plant explosion crashed on its way to Columbus, authorities say.
The Federal Aviation Administration said a twin-engine Beech BE20 crashed after departing Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, Arkansas, around noon.
The plane, with five people aboard, was heading to John Glenn International in Columbus, Ohio.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office told reporters at a news conference that there were no survivors.
CTEH, a science-based consulting firm, owns the plane and said all on board were employees.
The company said they were heading to Oakwood Village in Ohio to assist with the aftermath of a deadly fire at the I. Schumann & Co. copper alloy company.
An explosion at the metals plant on Monday killed a maintenance worker and injured more than a dozen people. Fire officials said the explosion likely happened in the building’s foundry, where molten metals are held in kettles.
“We are incredibly saddened to report the loss of our Little Rock colleagues,” said Dr. Paul Nony, senior vice president of CTEH. “We ask everyone to keep the families of those lost and the entire CTEH team in their thoughts and prayers.”
According to the Little Rock Fire Department, the plane crashed near the backside of the 3M Plant on Walters Road, just south of Interstate 440.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
Per its site CTEH is a environmental consulting company that ” empowers extraordinary teams of experts to help companies, governments, and communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from threats to their environment and people.”
CTEH has also been hired by Norfolk Southern to test soil and water in East Palestine.

Greece head-on train collision kills at least 36, stationmaster arrested.
A head-on collision overnight between a freight and passenger train in Greece killed at least 36 people and injured roughly 85 more, officials said Wednesday.
Police arrested the stationmaster in the city of Larissa in apparent connection to the accident, according to the Associated Press.
The person arrested has been further identified only as a 59-year-old male, and two others people were detained for questioning in apparent connection to the incident. The cause of the collision is unclear at this time.
The trains collided at a high speed just before midnight Tuesday, near Tempe in northern Greece.
Rescuers searched before dawn for survivors in the wreckage of the multiple derailed cars and at least three cars that burst into flames.
Many of the roughly 350 passengers on the train were students who attended a three-day carnival festival preceding Lent.

Andrey Botikov, known as one of the 18 scientists who worked on the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in 2020, was identified as the man who had been strangled to death with a belt in northwest Moscow.
It was previously reported he had survived the encounter after an intruder broke into his home and started rowing with him over money.
But a 29-year-old man has since been arrested and charged with the murder of the scientist.
